Ellis baseball comeback falls short in regional semifinals

The Ellis baseball team saw their season come to an end Monday in a 4-3 loss to Spearville in the Holcomb 2-1A Regional semifinals in Dodge City.

The Lancers jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two, then tacked on a run in the fifth after the Railers had pulled within a run. Ellis added another run in the sixth.

Brandon Bollig takes the loss, allowing two earned runs on seven hits, striking out 12 and walking just one.

Ellis committed three errors in the game and sees their season end at 10-7.

TMP-Marian 2 seed, HHS 3 seed for 4-1A soccer regoinal

TMP-Marian is the two seed and Hays High the six seed for this week’s 4-1A state soccer tournament. The Monarchs (10-3-1) receive a first-round bye and will host the winner of Monday’s Mulvane vs. Towanda-Circle match at 5pm Thursday.

The Indians (7-8-1) open with Wichita Trinity Academy (4-11) at 4pm Tuesday at Hays High. The winner gets No. 3 seed Winfield Thursday in Winfield.

4-1A Regional Soccer Bracket

TMP girls 2nd; boys 3rd at MCL meet

The TMP-Marian girls track and field team had two individuals and a relay team place first as the team finished second at the Mid-Continent League meet on Thursday in Plainville.

Melissa Pfeifer won the 800 meters (2:26.12) and finished second in the 3200 meters (14:05.52), behind Alicia Lechman (13:16.96) who won the event for TMP.

The TMP 4×800 meter relay team also placed first (10:47.97).

Norton won the girls team title with 112 points. TMP was second with 84 and Hill City was third.

The TMP boys finished third with 80 points, 33 behind second place Norton. Smith Center won the team title with 124 points.

Andre Hess won both the 1600 meters (4:53.02) and the 3200 meters (10:45.66) for TMP. Mark Loftus was second for the Monarchs in the 3200 meters (11:10.96).

Monarch baseball wins three to extend win streak

The TMP-Marian baseball team ends their regular season on a six-game win streak after defeating Goodland 12-7 in the completion of a rainout from last week then sweeping Colby 6-0 and 10-6. The Monarchs have won nine of their last 10 games to finish the regular season 16-4.

Ryan Ruder and Ryan Schippers both had three hits against Goodland. Ruder drove in three and scored twice. Schippers tripled and also scored two runs. Ricky Hockett allowed one run on six hits over four innings for the win. Hockett struck out six and walked none.

Kameron Schmidt threw a the complete game shutout in the opener against Colby, holding the Eagles to five hits while striking out five and walking none. Ricky Hockett drove in two while Schmidt, Justin Pfeifer and Jared Vitztum all had two hits.

Liam Stults pitched five innings in the second game with the Eagles and picks up the win. He struck out four and walked four. Braiden Werth drove in three.

The Monarchs will now play Russell/Victoria at two o’clock Tuesday in Hoisington in their regional opener.

Big day for Shoendaller helps HHS softball to sweep of Liberal

The Hays High softball team closed out the regular season with a pair of run-rule wins in Liberal Thursday. The Indians win 18-0 and 24-0 to finish the regular season at 5-15.

A big day for Kaylie Schoendaller who went 5-for-7 in the two games with two home runs and 12 RBIs. Schoendaller hit a solo homer in the first game then added a grand slam in the second and scored six runs.

Schoendaller now has hit 26 home runs in her career which is second most in Kansas history behind Bishop Carroll’s Brittany Finney (32). Both moved past the old mark of 24 held by former TMP-Marian and Fort Hays State standout Maddie Holub.

Madison Prough picks up the game one win, holding Liberal to two hits. Hope Aufdemburge wins the second game.

The Indians will play McPherson at three o’clock Tuesday in Andale in their regional opener.

TMP-Marian boys golf runner-up at MCL tourney

The TMP-Marian boys golf team finished second at the MCL tournament held at the Rooks County Golf and Country Club Thursday afternoon.

The Monarchs shoot a 318 and finish nine shots back of Plainville. Trego finished third with a 323.

Hayden Rohr shot a 76 to lead the Monarchs and finish sixth. Max Megaffin fired a 77 and was seventh.

Plainville’s Gunner Kerns wins the tournament with a 71. Trego Emmit Owens and Dion Reetz both shoot a 74 to and finish second and third respectively. Plainville’s Colten Bobeck was fourth with a 75.

HHS girls third, boys fifth at WAC track

The Hays High girls finished third and the boys fifth at the Western Athletic Conference track and field meet in Dodge City Thursday.

The Indian girls had two first and three second place finishes. Kali Pitcock wins the 100 meter hurdles and Lexi Summers the long jump. Ashlyn Parish was second in the 300 meter hurdles. Mattison Schlaefli was second in the javelin and the 4×800 relay was second.

Hayden Kreutzer won the pole vault and Ethan Nunnery the triple jump to lead the boys. Shane Berens finished second in the discus.

TMP-Marian girls soccer ends season in draw

The TMP-Marian girls soccer team closed out the regular season by playing to a 0-0 tie with Wichita North Thrusday at the Bickle/Schmidt Sports Complex.

The Monarchs are now 10-3-1. They find out who, where and when they play for regionals next week on Saturday.

HHS girls soccer wins regular season finale

Hays High girls soccer team ended their regular season with a 4-1 win over Salina Central Thursday.

Courtney Mollecker scored on a penalty kick in the first then Talyn Kleweno netted three goals in the second.

The Indians end the regular season 7-8-1. They find out their regional pairings on Saturday.

Monarch softball seeded second in Larned regional
The TMP-Marian (10-10) softball team is the No. 2 seed in the Larned 4A Division II regional and will play Larned (8-12) in the first round Tuesday (May 19) at 4:45 pm. Hoisington (11-9) is the No. 1 seed and will take on Nickerson (0-20) in the other first round matchup with the winners meeting in the finals at 6:30 pm the same day.

The Hays High (3-15) softball team is seeded third at the Andale 4A Division I softball regional and will play McPherson (11-9) in the opening round Tuesday (May 19) at 3 pm. Host Andale (12-6) is the No. 1 seed and will play Buhler (1-19) in the other first round game. The finals are set for 6 pm.

The Ellis (8-10) softball teams is the No. 3 seed for the Lincoln 2-1A regional and will take on Bennington (0-18) in the first round on Monday (May 18). The winner will face Salina-Sacred Heart (13-6) , who received a first round bye, on Tuesday (May 19) at 4:45pm.

Plainville/Stockton seeded seventh at Beloit
The Plainville/Stockton (0-20) is the No. 7 seed and will take on host Beloit (13-7) in the first round of the Beloit 3A softball regional on Monday (May 18) at 6 pm. Russell is the six seed and opens with Republic County at 3 pm Monday.

Hays High seeded fourth in own baseball regional
The Hays High (9-9) baseball team is seeded fourth and will host McPherson (13-7) in the first round of the Hays 4A Division I baseball regional at 2pm Tuesday (May 19) at the Hays High Field. Buhler (13-7) is seeded second and will play Ulysses (11-7) at 2pm with he winners meeting in the finals at 6pm.

The TMP-Marian baseball team is the No. 2 seed in next week’s Hoisington 4A Division II regional. The Monarchs (13-4) will play Russell/Victoria (13-5) in the first round at 4pm Tuesday (May 19). No. 1 seed Larned will play the host Cardinals in the first game at 2pm with the finals set for 6pm the same day.

The Ellis baseball team is the No. 3 seed in the 2-1A Spearville regional next week. The Railers (10-6) get a first-round bye and will play the No. 2 seed Spearville (8-4), who also gets a first-round bye in the semifinals on May 18 at 6 p.m. in Dodge City.

HHS baseball wins fifth straight WAC title with sweep of Liberal

The Hays High baseball team closed out their regular season with a pair of home wins over Liberal Tuesday to win their fifth consecutive Western Athletic Conference title. The Indians take the opener 4-2 then win the second game 5-2 to finish at 9-9 and 6-2 in the WAC.

Cole Schumacher held the Redskins to three hits in the opener, striking out six and walking six. The Indians pound out 13 hits to overcome four errors. Connor Rule homered, Dalton Stout tripled and drove in two and Marcus Altman doubled.

The Indians score three in the fourth to break open a one-run game in the second contest. Dalton Stout doubled and drove in three. Marcus Altman homered helping his own cause on the mound where he struck out five and walked seven but picks up the win. Tathan Burkhart threw 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief for the save.

HHS softball swept by Garden City

The Hays High softball team saw their losing streak grow to five with a pair of losses to Garden City Tuesday at the Glassman Ballpark. The Indians lose 5-0 and 15-6 to fall to 3-15 on the year.

Abbie Dart held the Indians to two hits in the first game. The Buffs took charge early by scoring two in the first then added two in the sixth and one in the seventh. Madison Prough allowed all five runs on 11 hits and takes the loss.

The Indians ended a 19-inning scoreless streak in game two, scoring in the third when Albany Schaffer scored on a Nicole Dinkel groundout. The Indians would add three in the fourth to pull within 6-4 but Garden City answers with three in the fifth then two in the sixth and seventh. Tessa Stickel had two hits and drove in two. Erika Arnhold takes the loss.

Hays closes out the regular season Thursday at Liberal.
