Indian girls’ soccer non-loss streak comes to an end

You have to go all the way back to April 5th to find the last time the Hays High girls’ soccer team lost a match. That was a 1-0 setback to Newton in the third-place game of the McPherson Invitational.

Tuesday, the Indians had their stretch of non-losses end at 10 with a 2-0 loss at McPherson. The Indians are now 10-3-1 with all three losses coming in McPherson.

Hays returns to Western Athletic Conference play Thursday when they host Dodge City.

Monarch baseball splits with Larned

The TMP-Marian baseball team split their doubleheader with a two-loss Larned team Tuesday, winning the first game 2-0 then losing game two 5-3 at the TMP Field.

The Monarchs scored both of their runs in the first inning of game one. Kameron Schmidt took over from there, picking up the complete game victory, striking out eight.

The Monarchs commit five errors in the second contest, falling behind 5-0 before scoring three in the bottom of the seventh. Cameron Brin takes the loss, striking out seven over seven innings. Grant Romme drove in two as the Monarchs move to 12-4 on the year while Larned is 13-3.

TMP is off until Monday when they host Russell/Victoria in a makeup doubleheader.

Ellis baseball swept by Hoisington

The Ellis baseball team has lost four straight after they were swept in Hoisington Tuesday by scores of 15-0 and 2-1.

The Railers were held to one hit in the first game which ended after three innings by run rule. Scott Pfeifer takes the loss, allowing four earned runs on nine hits.

Brandon Bollig struck out 11 and allowed just one earned run in the second game and is the tough luck loser as the Cardinals score a run in the sixth to tie then another in the seventh for the comeback win.

The Railers were held to just three hits as they fall to 6-8 on the year.

Lady Monarchs sweep Plainville

Allison Helget picked up two wins against Plainville on Tuesday to help the TMP Lady Monarchs improve their record to 7-11. Helget struck out 14 batters over the two games and never pitched from behind and improves to 6-8 on the season.

TMP had some big help from the bats in the first game, pounding out 14 hits including a pair of inside the park home runs from Kelli Veach and Heidi Gottschalk.

The Lady Monarchs will finish up their regular season schedule at home in the Mid-Central Activities Association tournament on May 13th.

Hays High softball rolls past Liberal in a sweep

The Hays High softball team made quick work of Liberal Tuesday, defeating the Redskins 15-0 and 22-0 at the Bickle/Schmidt Sports Complex.

Hannah Hearld pitched three hitless innings, striking out seven in the first game. Hearld and Kaylie Schoendaller hit back-to-back homers in the second inning.

In the second game, the Indians scored 10 in the first and 12 in the second. Madison Prough allowed just one hit while striking out four. Julie Balzer and Kylie Brown both drove in three as the Indians improve to 13-3 and 4-2 in the Western Athletic Confernece.

Hays returns to action Thursday at home against Salina Central.

TMP-Marian soccer shuts out Great Bend

The TMP-Marian girls’ soccer team improved to 5-2-1 with a 3-0 shutout of winless Great Bend Monday at the Bickle/Schmidt Sports Complex.

Sophomore Bailey Hageman scored two of the Monarchs goals, all in the first half. Her first goal came at the 35:02 mark. The second goal came halfway through the first half on a pass from sophomore Annaka Applequist. The Monarchs final goal took place with 45 seconds left in the half when Tyra Younie found Alyssa Keil in front of the net.

The Monarchs are off until Monday when they travel to Wichita Word of Life.

HHS girls’ soccer blanks Garden City

The Hays High girls’ soccer team has gone nine straight matches without a loss. The Indians scored three goals in the first 10 minutes Monday to defeat Garden City 4-0 at the Hays High Field.

Alexa Brull got the Indians on the board followed by two goals from freshman Courtney Molleker for a 3-0 lead at the half. Lacey Pfannenstiel scored the lone second half.

The Indians improve to 10-2-1 and 7-0 in the Western Athletic Conference. They play at McPherson Tuesday at 6pm.

HHS boys golf wins team and individual title at Great Bend Invite

The Hays High boys golf team brought home both the team and individual title at the Great Bend Invitational Monday at the par-71 Stone Ridge Country Club.

The Indians shot a 318 and finished 12 shots ahead of second place Dodge City.

Payton Ruder fired a 6-over-par 77 to win the individual title on a second hole playoff. Ruder and Garden City’s Taylor Larson both parred the par-3 18th in the first playoff hole. When they played the same hole the second time, Ruder made a par and Larson a bogey.

Kaden Bielman shot a 78 and finished third. Chase Lynd was seventh with an 81. Cash Hobson eight after an 82 and Lane Clark 10th with an 84.

The Indians are in Junction City Thursday.

Monarch golfers third at own invite

The TMP-Marian boys golfers finished third at their own invite Monday at Smoky Hill Country Club.

The Monarchs shot a 358 and finished 13 back of first-place Goodland.

Max Megaffin shot an 83 to finish seventh and Hayden Rohr fired an 85 and came in ninth.

TMP baseball sweeps Sacred Heart

The TMP-Marian baseball team moved to 11-3 with a doubleheader sweep of Salina Sacred Heart Thursday.

In the first game TMP scored two runs in each of the first three innings on their way to an 8-2 win.

Taylor Wasinger and Grant Romme both drove in two runs and Kameron Schmidt struck out six over five innings to get the win.

In game two the Monarchs scored three runs in the sixth inning to take a 5-1 lead and held on for the 5-4 win.

Cameron Brin struck out eight in six innings to pick up the win and he also drove in two in the game.

The Monarchs host Larned on Tuesday.

 

HHS Softball sweeps Larned

The Hays High softball team moved to 11-1 on the season with a doubleheader sweep of Larned on Thursday.

In game one Madison Prough and Hannah Hearld held Larned to just two hits in seven innings and Tessa Stickel and Kaylie Schoendaller each drove in two and a 7-1 win.

Hearld struck out 10 in five innings of relief to earn the win.

In the second game Hays exploded for 10 runs in the first inning and rolled Larned 21-8.

Seven different Indians collected at least three hits and Hearld homered and drove in five runs. Schoendaller also homered and drove in four runs.

Hearld earned the win in relief. In six innings of work she allowed two runs, one earned on two hits and she struck out 11.

The Indians host Liberal on Tuesday.

HHS and TMP girls’ soccer end in draw

NCKTech LOCAL SPORTS BANNER USE TFNThe TMP-Marian and Hays High girls’ soccer teams battled to a scoreless tie Thursday afternoon.

Just like the first meeting between the two teams they went to overtime tied at 0-0 but in the first meeting the Indians came away with the 1-0 win.

Hays moves to 8-2-1 and TMP is 4-2-1.

Hays High hosts Garden City on Monday.

TMP hosts Great Bend.
