HHS Boys Soccer Drops Third Straight

The Hays High boys soccer team drops their third straight Thursday, losing 3-1 in Liberal. The Indians fall to 5-7 overall and 1-5 in the Western Athletic Conference. They continue their busy week with a match in Wichita against Bishop Carroll Saturday.

KSHSAA Releases District Football Assignments for 2014 and 2015

KSHSAA LogoThe Kansas State High School Activities Association has released the district football assignments for the 2014 and 2015 seasons. Hays High, who will play in 4A Division I in football only starting next year, will have McPherson, Abilene and Buhler in their district.

TMP-Marian, which remains in 3A, will have Beloit, Russell and Norton in their district.

HHS Girl’s Golf Finished 3rd at Great Bend Invite

The Hays High girls’ golf team finishes third at the Great Bend Invitational yesterday at the Stoneridge Country Club. The Indians shot a 214 and finished 33 strokes back of first place Garden City. Nobody from finished in their top-10. They were led by Elissa Jensen who fired a 52 and finished 11th.

Garden City wrapped up their fifth straight WAC Championship. The Buffs Abbi Shaddix is the WAC Player of the Year and Garden City’s Melinda Base the WAC Coach of the Year. Hays High’s Katie Brungardt did finish on the All-WAC team with Lexie Schaben and Elissa Jensen honorable mention.

Area High School Volleyball Results

volleyballThe Victoria volleyball team picked up a pair of wins at the Otis-Bison triangular, defeating Kinsley 2-0 (25-20, 25-11) and the host Cougars in two (25-20, 25-16) and improve to 11-7 on the season.

Kristin Huser led the Knights with 21 service points, 15 service aces, 19 kills and two blocks. Julia Nowak had 17 digs and Audra Nowak had 21 assists.

Trego goes 0-2 at their triangular. The Golden Eagles lose 2-0 to Smith Center (27-29, 8-25) and 2-0 to Norton (22-25, 18-25). Smith Center defeated Norton 2-0 in the third match (25-10, 25-19).

The Hays High boys soccer team fell behind 2-0 in the first half and loses 2-0 in Dodge City Tuesday.

The loss is the second straight for the Indians who are now 5-6 overall and 1-4 in the Western Athletic Conference. They are back on the road Thursday at Liberal then play at Bishop Carroll in Wichita on Saturday.

KSHSAA Announces 2014 State Basketball Sites

KSHSAA LogoTOPEKA, Kan. — With the addition of class 4A DII the Kansas State High School Activities Association has selected Hartman Arena as the eighth site for the Girls and Boys State Basketball Tournaments March 12-15, 2014.

Hartman Arena, also host to the 5A and 6A State Wrestling Tournament, seats 6,750 and is located north of Wichita on I-135. “We are excited about our partnership with KSHSAA and very honored to be a founding partner of the new 4A DII boys and girls tournaments in the heart of Kansas in the Hartman Arena,” said Aran Rush, Executive Director of the Hartman Arena.

All sites will host both the boys and girls tournaments in their respective classification.

The No. 1 doubles team of Emily McPherson and Kelsee DeBoer went 2-2 and finished third. Brooke Forinash went 1-3 and finished fourth in No. 1 singles while Julie Balzer went 0-5 and finished fifth in No. 2 singles.

The Hays High volleyball team wins all three of their matches at their own quadrangular Monday. The Indians defeat Colby in three (25-12, 15-25, 25-18), Liberal in two (25-23, 25-22) and Phillipsburg in two (25-21, 25-22).

Albany Schaffer led the way with 59 digs. Madison Prough had 36 assists and Kylie Brown had a team high 16 kills.

Next action for the Indians is at the Western Athletic Conference Tournament October 19th in Dodge City.

TMP Falls to LaCrosse

TMP lost their 4th straight game on Friday Night, losing 53-7 to Lacrosse.  The Monarchs trailed 6-0 early and went on a 6 play, 59 yard drive to take a 7-6 lead.  La Crosse would score the last 47 points of the game to cruise to 5-0 on the season.  Unofficially, the Leopards outgained the Monarchs in total yardage, 400-93.

TMP, now 1-4, will be at home next Friday against Phillipsburg.  La Crosse will travel to take on Inman.

The Hays High girls’ golf team finished seventh at the Hutchinson Invitational held at Carey Park Thursday. The Indians shot a 385 in the 18-hole event and were led by Katie Brungardt’s 91 which tied her for 20th.

HHS Goes 1-2 at Own Volleyball Quad

The Hays High volleyball team goes 1-2 at their own quad Thursday. The Indians lost in three to Salina South (25-23, 23-25, 15-25), were swept by Abilene (14-25, 19-25) then beat Norton in two (25-22, 25-23).
Morgan Klaus led the way with 14 kills, Madison Prough had 35 assists, Kylie Brown had 15 blocks and Albany Schaffer added 99 digs.

The Indians are in Great Bend Saturday.
