Hays High Suffers First Loss Of Season
Lightning delayed the start of the Hays High-Garden City football game on Friday night by thirty minutes. Then lightning ended the game at half time. In between was a 35-0 blitz from the Buffaloes.
Hays opened the game with the ball and drove to midfield before fumbling the football. Garden City would apparently go three and out, that is until the Buffaloes quarterback Greyson Tempel took the punt instead of the punter and hit Caleb Tramp for a defended 48 yard touchdown and a 7-0 lead.
Hays again drove to midfield but a fumble recovered by Tramp set up Garden City again in Hays High territory. Again on fourth and short Garden City lined up and converted on a 25 yard run to the three yard line setting up Jared Koster for a touchdown.
Down 14-0 it got worse for the Indians when Alex Delton threw an interception and later turned into seven more points. Then after a three and out the Indians punted the football away only to see Dustin Tempel return the ball 67 yards for a touchdown and a 28-0 lead with over 11 minutes to go in the first half. Garden City would tack on one more score with 5:15 remaining on a Greyson Tempel 68 yard run for 35-0 score.
Rain started falling during the homecoming crowning at half time, then a bolt of lightning over the studio sent everybody back to the locker rooms. After a 45 minute delay, conversations between the coaches, athletic directors and several checks of the radar the game was called.
Garden City takes the 35-0 win and improves their record to 2-2 and 1-1 in the WAC. Hays is now 3-1 and 1-1 in conference play. The Indians are on the road next Friday to play Wichita South.
Tough Loss For TMP-Marian at Ellsworth
Ellsworth 29 TMP 25
TMP lost their 3rd consecutive game losing to Ellsworth 29-25 Friday Night. TMP led by as many as 12 points in the 2nd Half but could never put the game away. Ellsworth Junior Quarterback Takota Anderson scored the last of his four touchdowns with 1:43 left in the game. TMP had their final drive finished by a late interception. The Monarchs did have 2 defensive touchdowns. Ryan Mayorga returned an interception 70 yards for a score just before the end of the 1st Half and Adam Schibi picked an Anderson pass off and rumbled 59 yards for the score early in the 4th Quarter.
TMP is now 1-3 on the season and will be back home on Friday Night to host the undefeated La Crosse Leopards.
