HHS Girls Soccer Defeats Garden City

IndianThe Hays High girls soccer team improved their record to 11-2 and 7-0 in the Western Athletic Conference with a 2-0 win at Garden City.

Alexa Brull and April Johnson both scored a goal for the Indians and Johnson also added an assist.

The Indians host McPherson on Thursday.

TMP Baseball Sweeps Russell

TMPThe TMP-Marian baseball improved their record to 10-4 this season with a doubleheader sweep of Russell yesterday winning the first game 12-2 in five innings and the second game 11-6.

Cameron Brin earned the win in the first game and Ryan Shippers picked up the win in game number two.

The Monarchs have now won 10 of their last 11 games.

The Monarchs are back in action this afternoon at Larned.

Hays High Baseball Splits at Great Bend

The Hays High baseball team split their doubleheader in Great Bend Thursday. The Indians score 16 runs on 15 hits in the opener and win 16-0 in 5 innings. The Panthers rally for an 8-7 win in game two. Hays is now 9-3 and 4-2 in the Western Athletic Conference. The Panthers are 7-2 and 3-1 in the WAC.

Game 1: Hays 16, Great Bend 0 (5 inn.)
The Indians blew the game open with 10 in the top of the fifth. Zack Legleiter had three hits and drove in five including two with a first inning home run. Chandler Rule also had three hits and knocked in three. He had a solo homer in the first. Hayden Hutchison added a solo homer in the fourth and Layne Downing had a two-run shot in the fifth.

Hutchison allowed just one hit over four innings and picks up the win. Cole Schumacher didn’t allow a run in the fifth.

Game 2: Great Bend 8, Hays 7
The Panthers rallied with a run in the sixth and three in the seventh. The Indians scored six in the first but would get just a Hayden Hutchison solo homer in the fourth the rest of the way.

Chandler Rule hit a three-run shot in the first to lead the Indians offense.

Hutchison takes the loss in relief, allowing one unearned run on two hits in 2/3 of an inning.

TMP-Marian Baseball Sweeps Sacred Heart

TMPThe TMP-Marian baseball team has won eight of their last nine games following a  doubleheader sweep of Salina Sacred Heart on Thursday at Larks Park.  TMP won game one 6-3 behind seven strong innings from sophomore Kameron Schmidt.  The Monarch offense scored 3 first inning runs and never looked back.

TMP blanked the Knights 6-0 in the second game.  Senior Shane Zimmerman picked up his second win of the season and worked out of a couple of jams including a bases loaded, two out jam in the top of the sixth inning to preserve a 3-0 lead.  The Monarchs would tack on 3 runs in the bottom of the inning to secure the win.

The Knights came into the doubleheader averaging nearly 12 runs per game and falls to 9-3 on the season.  TMP improves to 8-4 on the year and will have a pair of doubleheaders on the road next week.  At Russell on Monday and at Larned on Tuesday.

Hays High Softball Sweeps Larned

The Hays High softball team sweeps Larned Thursday at the Glassman ballfields. The Indians shut out Larned in the first game 5-0, then came from behind to win 7-5 in game two. The Indians have won seven of their last eight and improve to 8-4 on the season.

Shae Briggs had three hits and Katelyn Schumacher drove in two.

Jenna Luebbers (2-1) allowed four unearned runs on four hits over 6.0 innings for the win. Madison Prough allowed an unearned run in seventh and gets the save, her first of the year.

HHS Girls’ Soccer Defeats Great Bend

The Hays High girls soccer team picked up their second win over Great Bend in four days. The Indians beat the Panthers 4-0 on a makeup match Friday in Great Bend then won 4-0 Monday afternoon in Hays.

The Indians are now 9-2 and 6-0 in the Western Athletic Conference.

TMP Baseball Sweeps Goodland

TMPThe TMP Monarchs completed a doubleheader sweep of Goodland on Friday Night winning Game One 13-3 in 5 Innings and Game Two 5-4.  Goodland started the scoring in Game One with 3 runs in the top of the 1st Inning.  TMP answered with 4 runs in the bottom of the inning and took control from there.  Cameron Brin pitched all 5 innings to pick up the win.

In Game Two the TMP scored 3 runs in the first 3 innings and Kameron Schmidt, Shane Zimmerman and Liam Stults pitched 5 hitless innings.  Goodland came alive in the top of the 6th Inning with 4 runs off of Stults to take the lead.  Ryan Schippers came on to pitch a perfect 7th Inning and the Monarchs won it with 2 runs in the bottom of the inning, capped off with a Kameron Schmidt RBI single.  TMP is now 6-4 on the season and will be at Russell for a doubleheader on Tuesday.

The Hays High boys golf team picked up their first tournament win of the season Friday, winning the Salina South Invitational by one stroke over Derby at the Salina Municipal Golf Course.

HHS Soccer Wins in OT

The Hays High girls’ soccer team stayed unbeaten in the Western Athletic Conference with a 2-1 overtime win in Liberal Thursday.

Brooke Russell scored in the final minute to tie the match. Taylor Herman scored the game winner in overtime.

The Indians are now 7-2 overall and 4-0 in the WAC.

HHS Softball Uses Long Ball to Sweep Colby

HHS-SB-SchoendallerKaylie Schoendaller hit five home runs in drove in 11 leading the Hays High softball team to a doubleheader sweep of Colby. The Indians win the opener 16-11 and take game two 15-3 in eight innings. They have now won five of their last six and improve to 6-4 on the season.

Game 1: Hays 16, Colby 11
Kaylie Schoendaller hit two of the Indians four home runs as they score in every inning but the seventh. Hays scored two in the first on a Schoendaller two-run homer. They add six in the second, three in the third and fourth and one in the fifth and sixth.

Tessa Stickel and Haley Wells also went deep for the Indians. Stickel also doubled, Wells added a triple and Julie Belzer hit a triple.

Madison Prough (4-3) picks up the win, allowing all 11 runs (eight earned) on 15 hits while walking five and striking out four.

Game 2: Hays 15, Colby 8 (5 innings)
The Indians raced out to a 12-2 lead after three innings then scored three in the fourth.

Kaylie Schoendaller led the 21 hit attack with three home runs and a double and drove in eight. Her two-run homer got the Indians on the board. She added a three-run homer in the second and another two-run blast in the third.

Haley Wells also homered for the Indians helping Madison Prough to her second win of the day. Prough (5-3) allowed three runs on nine hits with two walks and two strikeouts.

HHS Baseball Sweeps Garden City

HHS-BSB-HutchisonThe Hays High baseball team ran their winning streak to four with a doubleheader sweep of Garden City yesterday. The Indians take game one 15-7 then win the night cap 10-7 to move to 8-2 overall and 3-1 in the Western Athletic Conference.

Game 1: Hays 15, Garden City 7
Hays jumping on the Buffs early, leading 12-0 after four innings. Garden City scored six in the fifth and one in the sixth to make things interesting but the Indians tack on three insurance runs in the seventh.

Chance Pitcock and Hayden Hutchison both had three hits. Hutchison drove in three and Layne Downing homered twice including a three-run shot in the second and finished with four RBIs.

Marcus Altman didn’t allow a run on three hits over the first four innings and picks up the win.

Game 2: Hays 10, Garden City 7
The Indians trailed 4-1 through four innings then scored nine in the fifth to take a 10-4 lead. Garden City would score three in the bottom of the inning but Hayden Hutchison would shut the door the rest of the way and pick up the save.

Cole Schumacher gets the win, allowing all seven runs, but just one earned on five hits over 4 1/3 innings.

Marcus Altman drove in three.

Monarch Baseball Splits in Great Bend

TMPThe TMP-Marian Monarchs split their two games in Great Bend yesterday. The Monarchs avenge a pair of one-run losses to Scott City to start the season with a 7-2 win over the Beavers then lose to Great Bend 8-0.

Cameron Schmidt picks up the win against Scott and Shane Zimmerman takes the loss against the Panthers. TMP is now 4-4 on the season.
