LaCrosse Boys and TMP-Marian Girls Win Plainville Track Invitational

Track and FieldThe LaCrosse boys and TMP-Marian girls were the winners of Tuesday’s Plainville track and field Invitational. The Monarchs won eight events including the 4×800 and 4×400 relays. Other top finishers for the Monarchs included Heather Ruder in the 3200, Allison Pfeifer in the 1600, Mikaela Flax in the 300 hurdles, Bailey Hageman in the 100 hurdles, Samantha Younie in the triple jump and Megan Gottschalk in the pole vault.

Ellis’ Alexcia Deutscher took three golds, winning the long jump as well as the 100 and 200 meters. Plainville’s Shelby Pywell takes the shot put and discus.

The TMP boys won three events including the 4×100 relay. Zach Dreiling won the pole vault and Andrew Hess the 3200.

LaCrosse was led by Levi Morss who won the 100 and 200 and Kip Keeley who takes the shot put and javelin. William Storie won the 300 hurdles and the Leopards win the 4×400 relay.

Plainville’s Dalton Werner won the long jump with teammates Nick Hixon taking the 100 hurdles and Dewey Quinn the 1600.

HHS Finishes 2nd at Bob Blazer/Hays High Invitational

The Hays High boys golf team shot a 319 and finished second at the Bob Blazer/Hays High Invitational yesterday at the Smoky Hill Country Club. Dodge City won

the team title with a  315, four shots ahead of the Indians. Kaden Beilman led the Indians with a seven-over-par 78 and finished third, five shots behind Dodge City’s Zach Kirby who won the tournament with a two-over-par 73. Nathan Romme shot a 79 and finished sixth. Ryan Unruh fired an 80 and came in seventh.

HHS Baseball Sweeps Salina South

HHS-BSBThe Hays High baseball team picked up a pair of one-run wins over Salina South Friday at Larks Park. Hays beat the Cougars 4-3 in 10 innings in game one and 3-2 in game two. They are now 6-2 on the season.

Game 1: Hays 4, Salina South 3 (10 inn.)
Pinch-runner Specner Greathouse stole third then scored the game-winning run with two outs in the bottom of the 10th on an error by the Cougar shortstop. Greathouse was running for Chandler Rule who reached on a one-out double.

Both teams scored two in the ninth. Chance Pitcock singled to score Layne Downing. Marcus Altman reached on a fielders choice scoring Cade Parker to send the game to the 10th.

South scored one in the first, the Indians tied the game with a run in the third on Dan Bittel’s RBI single.

Cole Schumacher didn’t allow a run in 1 1/3 innings of relief for his first win of the season. Starter Hayden Hutchison gave up three unearned runs on seven hits over 8 2/3 innings.

Game 2: Hays 3, Salina South 2
Cade Parker allowed just one earned runs in the complete game victory, striking out eight and walking two.

The Indians scored two runs in the third to tie then got the go-ahead run across in the fifth. Chandler Rule and Parker both singled to drive in a run in the third. Jake Sedbrook knocked in what proved to be the game winning run on a groundout to second.

HHS Softball Splits With Salina South

HHS-SBThe Hays High softball team ran their winning streak to three, surviving a five-run seventh inning by Salina South and won game one 9-8. South wins game two 11-7. The Indians are now 4-4 on the season

Game 1: Hays 9, Salina South 8
Salina South scored five in the top of the seventh to close the gap to one but Madison Prough (3-2)got a strikeout to end the game. Prough allowed all eight runs, only one earned, on eight hits for the win.

Both Hays High and Salina South commit five errors in the game.

The Indians scored three in the first and one in the second for a 4-0 lead. South answered with three in the third. Hays would come back with two in the fourth and three in the fifth for 9-3 lead.

Shae Briggs and Katlyn Schumacher led the Indians 13-hit attack with three hits each. Schumacher drove in three and Briggs two.

Game 2: Salina South 11, Hays 7
The Cougars scored two in the fourth to break a 1-1 tie. Hays responded with four in the fourth and led 5-3 but South came back with three in the fifth and four in the sixth.

Haley Wells solo homer in the third tied the game at 1-1. Katelyn Schumacher added a solo homer in the seventh.

Jenna Luebbers (1-2) takes the loss, allowing three runs (one earned) on five hits over four innings.

HHS Girls Soccer Falls at Home

The Hays High girls’ soccer team saw their two-game win streak snapped at home Monday, losing 1-0 to Junction City at the Hays High field.

Laura Truman had two saves as the Indians fall to 5-2. They play return to Western Athletic Conference play Tuesday at Great Bend.

HHS Baseball Splits at Kapaun

The Hays High baseball team split their doubleheader at Kapaun Mt. Carmel in Wichita. The Indians win game one 6-3 but lost game two 8-3. Hays is now 4-2 and the Crusaders 3-1.

Game 1: Hays 6. Kapaun 3
The Indians raced out to a 3-0 lead then scored two in the sixth to go up 6-2. After the Crusaders scored a run in the sixth, the Indians answer with one in the seventh.

Marcus Altman allowed two runs on six hits over five innings for the win. Hayden Hutchison had three hits. Hutchison, Dan Bittel and Layne Downing all drove in two runs.

Game 2: Kapaun 8, Fort Hays State 3
Kapaun added to a 3-1 lead, scoring three in the fourth and two in the fifth.

Layne Downing takes the loss, allowing six runs (two earned) over four innings, walking five and striking out one.

Zack Legleiter, Chandler Rule and Jake Sedbrook both had two hits.

HHS Softball Sweeps Dodge City

HHS-SBThe Hays High softball team used a couple of big first innings to carry them to a doubleheader sweep over Dodge City in their home opener Thursday at Glassman Park. The Indians scored five in the first and won game one by run-rule 11-1. They strike for six in the first in game two and win it 14-5 to improve to 3-3 on the season.

Game 1: Hays 11, Dodge City 1 (5 inn.)
Madison Prough allowed just one run on four hits for the win. Haley Wells drove in three runs and Kaylie Schoendaller hit a two-run homer in the fifth to end the game.

Game 2: Hays 14, Dodge City 5
Katelyn Schumacher and Tessa Stickel both had three RBI’s. Jenna Luebbers pitched the final four innings or relief to pick up the win, allowing one earned run on four hits.

TMP-Marian Baseball Splits With Garden City

The TMP-Marian baseball team splits their doubleheader in Garden City Thursday. The Monarchs drop the opener 4-1 but come back to win game two 8-7 in 10 innings, their first win of the season. They are now 1-3.

HHS Girls Soccer Wins Second Straight

Megan Bird scored three goals to lead the Hays High girls’ soccer team to a 5-1 win over Liberal Thursday at the Hays High field. Michelle Linville and Taylor Herman also scored as the Indians win their second straight and move to 5-1 on the season.

The Indians had 13 shots on goal to the Redskins two.

HHS Boys Golf 7th at McPherson Invitational

The Hays High boys golf team finished seventh with a 331 at the McPherson Invitational at the Turkey Creek Golf Course.

Payton Ruder was the only top-15 finisher for the Indians coming in fifth after shooting a 77.

HHS-BSBThe Hays High baseball team split their home opening doubleheader with Dodge City Tuesday at Larks Park.  The Indians win the opener 3-1 then are shutout in game two 3-0. They are now 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the Western Athletic Conference. The Indians play at Kapaun Mt. Carmel Friday.

Game 1: Hays 3, Dodge City 1
Hayden Hutchison holds the Red Demons to one unearned run on two hits in the complete game victory. Hutchison also hit a two-run double in the third to give the Indians all the runs they would need. Hutchison scored Hays third run on a wild pitch.

Game 2: Dodge City 3, Hays 0
The Indians were held to one hit, a Chandler Rule single in the fourth. Cade Parker takes the loss, allowing three runs on five hits over four innings.
