HHS Boys Soccer Falls to No. 5 Bishop Carroll in 2OT

The Hays High boys soccer team game 5th-ranked Bishop Carroll a good run, but falls 2-1 in two overtimes Thursday in Wichita.

Carroll scored five minutes into the match and it would stay that way until Jordan Windholz’s equalizer on an assist from Cody Brown with 47 seconds remaining in regulation.

Carroll scored the game-winner with 5:11 to play in the second overtime period.

The Indians are now 5-8-2 on the year. They play their final regular season match next Thursday against TMP-Marian who lost 4-1 to Garden City at the Wichita North Cup yesterday.

HHS Boys Soccer Drops Home Finale

The Hays High boys soccer team scored early but not enough as they fall 2-1 to Garden City in their final home match of the season.

Shawn Herrman put the Indians up 1-0 four minutes into the match. It would stay that way until the 73rd minute when the Buffs scored the equalizer. They would put in the go-ahead and eventual game-winning goal two minutes later.

Hays is now 6-8-2 overall and 3-4-1 in the Western Athletic Conference. They travel to Bishop Carroll tomorrow.

HHS Girls’ Golf Team Qualifies for 5A State

The Hays High girls’ golf team is headed to state after a third place finish at the Salina regional. The Indians shoot a 390, three shots behind second-place Salina Central and four behind first-place Newton.

Hays put two in the top-10 led by Taylor Herman’s 92. Courtney Hess shot a 95 and finished ninth. The 5A state tournament is Monday in Emporia.

TMP-Marian Qualifies 3 for 3-2-1A State Golf

TMP-Marian finished fourth at the Russell regional, 15 strokes behind third-place Hoisington.

The Monarchs did qualify three individuals. Monica Michaud was 12th with a 115, Emily Leiker 15th with a 125 and Annake Applequist 18th with a 128. The 3-2-1A state tournament is next Monday at Cherry Oaks in Cheney.

Hays High Overwhelms Dodge City 52-31

Hays High scored three touchdowns on their first seven plays of offense, rolling to a 52-31 victory over Dodge City on Friday night.

The Indians opened the game with a two play 73 yard drive finished with a 71 yard touchdown run by Preston Weigel.  After a three and out from Dodge city, David Cardinal capped off a two play 83 yard drive with a 82 yard score, taking a 14-0 lead with 7:20 to go in the first quarter.  Dodge City did respond with a Blaik Middleton touchdown run, but the Indians scored again in three plays on a Alex Delton to Adam Deterding touchdown pass from 74 yards out taking a 21-7 lead into the second quarter.

Hays stretched their lead to 38-7 at the half.

Dodge City did get with in 21 points late in the third quarter 45-24, but never any closer.

Hays had several players with huge performances.  Alex Delton went 12-14 passing for 220 yards and four touchdowns.  He has four touchdown passes in each of his last two games.  Three of the touchdowns tonight went to Adam Deterding who caught five passes for 120 yards.  Emilio Mitchell also caught a touchdown pass.

Two Indians went over 100 yards rushing.  Preston Weigel led the way with 187 yards and one touchdown on only 12 touches.  David Cardinal ran for 150 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries.

Hays moves to 5-1 on the season and 3-0 in the Western Athletic Conference.  Dodge drops to 3-3 and 1-2 in the WAC.  Hays is at 5-1 Great Bend next Friday.

Hays scored on all six of their first half possessions with five touchdowns and a field goal by Lane Clark.

5th Straight Loss for TMP

   TMP couldn’t get anthing going offensively or defensivley on Friday Night in a 59-0 loss to Phillipsburg.  The Monarch weren’t able to crack 100 yards of total offense and turned the ball over 5 times.  TMP will be at home next week to take on Russell in the 1st round.

HHS Boys Soccer Rallies Past Liberal

The Hays High boys soccer team scored two goals in the final six minutes to force overtime then scored 3 1/2 minutes into overtime to defeat Liberal 3-2 Thursday at Hays High.

Hays trailed 2-0 at the break. Kellen Griffin scored the two second half goals to tie the game. The first in the 75th minute on an assist from Josue Lopez. The second a minute later on a cross from Shawn Herrman. Herrman scored the game-winner in overtime on an assist from Cody Brown.

The Indians are now 5-6-2 and 3-3-1 in the Western Athletic Conference.

TMP Boys Cross Country 3rd, Girls 4th at Sterling

The TMP-Marian boys cross country team finished third and the girls fourth at Thursday’s the Sterling Invitational. Heather Ruder (15:11.91) won the girls race by a little less than five seconds over Hillsboro’s Emily Sechrist.

Andrew Hess was the top finisher for the Monarch boys, coming in 14th (18:13.28).

HHS Boys Soccer Loses Wild Match in Dodge City


Hays led 1-0 at the half on a Graydon Olson goal. Dodge scored in the 53rd and 67th minute to take the lead. The Indians answered with a Jordan Windholz goal off a rebound of a Shawn Herrman shot one minute later to tie.

Dodge scores 38 seconds later to go up 3-2 but the Indians tie it on Windholz’s second goal of the match in the 78th minute, but it wouldn’t stand as the Red Demons found the back of the net with 24 seconds to play to win it.

The loss drops the Indians to 4-6-2 and 2-2-1 in the Western Athletic Conference.

HHS Girls’ Golfers 2nd at Great Bend Invite

The Hays High girls’ golf team finishes second at the Great Bend Invitational Tuesday the Stoneridge Country Club.

The Indians shoot a 214, 42 shots behind first place Garden City. Hays placed two in the top-10 led by Courtney Hess who was sixth with a 51. Elissa Jensen finished eighth with a 53.
