TMP-Marian girls’ soccer blanks Life Prep

WICHITA, Kan – The TMP-Marian soccer team had little trouble with Life Prep Academy of Wichita Tuesday, blanking the Fire 10-0 Tuesday.  Aubrey Koeningsman scored four goals, Kayla Vitztum three, Deonna Wellbrock two and Megan Koeningsman one.

Kalyn DeWitt was the goalkeeper in the first half and Aiden Johnson in the second.

The Monarchs improve to 4-1-1 on the season.

Hays High falls to Garden City

GARDEN CITY, Kan.-Tressa Becker scored in the third minute of Monday afternoon’s match-up in Garden City to give Hays High the early 1-0 lead.  Little did the Lady Indians know that blast would be the only goal they would get the rest of the way.  Garden City tied the game in the 19th minute on a goal from Goretti Mendez and took the lead on a Abigail Jarmer goal in the 32nd minute.

The two teams went scoreless in the second half.  Hays High had some late chances but could not find the back of the net.  The Lady Indians drop to 5-3 on the season and 1-2 in the Western Athletic Conference and will hit the road again on Thursday to take on Liberal.

Monarch softball wins two in Plainville

PLAINVILLE, Kan. Alison Helget threw a three-hit shutout and drove in six runs to lead the TMP-Marian softball team to a 14-0 win over Plainville in game one of their triangular in Plainville Thursday. The Monarchs beat Sylvan-Lucas 12-2 in the second game to extend their win streak to six and improve to 7-3.

Helget struck out 11 batters and walked only one in the first game. She hit a grand slam in the second inning and added two triples at the plate.

The Monarchs took the early lead on a first inning sacrifice bunt by Emily Schulte. They then added five runs in the sixth thanks to a single form Ciara Seib and triple by Helget.

Bailey Lacy allowed four hits over five innings in the second game against Sylvan-Lucas. Lacy struck out nine with no walks. Alison Helget homered and tripled and drove in two.

HHS softball swept at Goddard

GODDARD, Kan. It was a long day for the Hays High softball team as they commit 13 errors and get outscored 31-1 in losses to Goddard and Maize at the Goddard Triangular Wednesday. The games were a makeup from March 31.

Goddard took advantage of three first inning errors to score six runs then added nine in the third for a 16-1 win in a game called after three innings by run-rule. Jaysa Wichers drove in the only run for Hays with a first inning single. She also took the loss, allowing six unearned runs on one hit over 2/3 of an inning.

Maize struck for seven runs in the first and won 15-0 in four innings. Macee Altman allowed all seven first inning runs and suffered the loss as the Indians drop to 2-4.

Hays is back in action Thursday at home against Great Bend. Both games will be broadcast on KFIX (96.9-FM) beginning with the Hertz Rent-A-Car Pregame at 3:45 pm.

Ellis baseball sweeps TMP

The Ellis Railroaders swept the TMP baseball team in a doubleheader Tuesday in Hays.

In the first game the Monarchs led 3-1 after three but the Railers scored two in their half of the fourth tying the game at three. The two teams would remain tied until the top of the eighth inning when Ellis scored three runs. TMP got one in the bottom of the inning as the Railers earn the 6-4 win.

In game two Ellis scored one run in the sixth and two more in the seventh to earn the 8-7 come from behind win.

Ellis took a 5-0 lead through two and a half innings scoring two in the first and three in the third inning but the Monarchs got two runs back in the third and them took the lead with five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.

With TMP leading 7-5 through five innings the Railers scored one in the sixth and two in the seventh to get the win.

Gavin Schmarcher was 1-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs.

Tate Garcia allowed five runs, four earned in three innings and struck out three in the loss.

TMP is 1-5 on the season and will travel to Great Bend on Tuesday to take on the Panthers.

TMP soccer earns shutout win over Garden City

TMP soccer earned their third win of the season Tuesday with a 2-0 win over Garden City.

The Monarchs got goals from Ashley Ostrander and Kayla Viztum in the win.

The Lady Monarchs are 3-1-1 on the season and will travel to Wichita next Tuesday, April 18th to take on Wichita Word of Life

Hays High Soccer escapes Great Bend with win

GREAT BEND, Kan.-The Hays High Girls’ Soccer Team never let Great Bend in front on Tuesday afternoon, picking up a crucial 3-2 win on the road.  The Lady Indians got the scoring started early on a long blast from Kallie Leiker in the 4th minute with an assist from Maddie Keller.  Great Bend would find an answer from Kealy Ireland in the 17th minute to tie the match at one goal each.  That would be the score heading to the second half.

Sydney Sulzman put one in the back of the net in the 50th minute thanks to another assist from Keller.  The Lady Indians would increase their lead to two goals, 3-1, 12 minutes later when Leiker connected with her second goal of the match.  Great Bend would not go quietly as Kaily Griffith scored on a free kick in the 65th minute to cut the HHS lead to one.

The Lady Panthers would make a couple of late runs but could not put one in the goal.  With the win Hays High improves to 5-2 on the year and 1-1 in the Western Athletic Conference.  They are off until Monday when they travel to Garden City.

Monarch softball sweeps Colby

HAYS, Kan. – The TMP-Marian softball team made quick work of Colby Monday with a couple of three-inning run rule wins. The Monarchs scored 14 runs in the second inning and won the opener 19-4. Alison Helget homered twice and drove in four and picked up the win in the circle. Emily Schulte also had four RBIs.

The Monarchs struck for eight in the first inning and won the second game 16-1. Emily Schulte and Bailey Lacy both homered. Lacy and Alison Helget both knocked in three runs with Lacy picking up the win.

The Monarchs snap their three-game losing streak to move to 3-3. They host Ellis Tuesday afternoon.

HHS boys golf finishes runner-up in McPherson

McPHERSON, Kan. – The Hays High boys golf team shot a 318 and finished second at the McPherson Invitational Monday afternoon at the Turkey Creek Golf Course. The Indians finished 15 shots behind first place Salina Sacred Heart.

Josh Norris fired a five-over-par 75 and finished third. Tradgon McCrae was eighth after a 79 and Allen Zollinger placed 10th with an 80.

Lady Indians blank Junction City

HAYS, Kan-It took the Hays High Lady Indians Soccer Team just under 15 minutes to score their first goal against Junction City on Monday afternoon at the Hays High Field.  Maddie Keller’s high arching shot bounced over the Bluejay’ Goalie and found the back of the net.  Courtney Molleker followed up with a goal in the 35th minute to give the Lady Indians the 2-0 lead at halftime.

Keller started the second half scoring in the 48th minute to push the Hays High lead to 3-0.  Sophomore Hannah McGuire capped the Lady Indian scoring with just over 26 minutes remaining, giving Hays High the 4-0 win.  The defense was solid once again for Hays High as Junction City failed to get a solid shot on goal the whole match.

Hays High improves to 4-2 on the season and will play in Great Bend on Tuesday afternoon.

Hays High baseball splits with Kapaun Mt. Carmel

The Hays High baseball team split a doubleheader with Kapaun Mt. Carmel Friday in Wichita.

Game One: Hays 5, Kapaun Mt. Carmel 2

In game one Trey Riggs allowed just two runs over six innings and drove in two runs as the Indians earned the 5-2 win.

Trailing 1-0 in the top of the second inning the Indians tied the game at one when Grant Coffman grounded into a field’s choice that allowed Tyrone Wynn to come in and scored after he reached on an error to lead off the inning.

Wynn added a fourth inning homerun that put the Indians up 2-1. Riggs’ two-run single in the sixth inning put Hays up 4-1. Kapaun got a run back in the bottom half of the inning but Hays added one more in the top of the seventh on a Dawson Harmon RBI double as they picked up the 5-2 win.

Riggs earned the win and Wynn picked up the save for Hays.

Game Two: Kapaun 7, Hays 4
In game two Kapaun scored in five of their six innings on their way to a 7-4 win.

Hays took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a Jace Armstrong RBI single but Kapaun answered back with one in the bottom of the inning and two more in the second to take a 3-1 lead.

The Indians got one run back in the top of the third inning on a Tyrone Wynn RBI single, cutting the deficit to 3-2 but that was as close as Hays would get as they fall 7-4.

Cole Murphy allowed five runs, three earned on nine hits over five innings and got the loss for Hays. Riggs finished 1-for-3 with 2 RBIs.

Hays High is now 3-1 on the season and they will host Liberal on April 13th.

TMP boys and girls track teams each finish 5th at Russell Invitational

The TMP-Marian boys and girls track teams both finished 5th at the Russell Invitational on Thursday.

The Monarch boys placed seven individuals and a relay team in five events and totaled 36 points. Pratt won the team title with 82 points. Plainville finished third with 73 points. Ellis and Russell tied for sixth with 21 points.

In the boys 3200 meter run TMP’s Ethan Lang (11:05.90) and Trevor Pfeifer (11:27.84) placed second and third respectively.

TMP’s 4×800 meter relay team placed third with a time of 9:33.91.

The Monarchs placed three in the boys high jump. Hayden Lowe cleared 6’0” to finish second. Jared Mayers and David McFarland each cleared a height of 5’10” to finish third and fourth.

McFarland finished fourth in pole vault with a height of 11’0”.

A pair of Monarch freshman medaled in the triple jump. Brandon Karlin finished second with a jump of 40’7” and Tanner Diehl was fourth recording a distance of 40’2”

The TMP girls had five individuals and one relay team medal as they finished with 36 team points. Ellsworth won the team title with 68 points and Ellis finished third.

Senior Kendra Werth placed in three individual events on Thursday. She placed second in the 100 meter hurdles (17.45), third in the 300 meter hurdles (50.85) and third in the triple jump (33’75”).

Junior Savannah Yost placed in two events; finishing third in the girls high jump. Yost was one of four to record a meet-high 5’0”. Yost also finished fifth in the girls high long jump with a distance of 15’ 6.5”

Julia Werth finished third in the 1600 meters (6:02.61). Emily Schippers was second in the 3200 meter run (13:11.57) and Kiara Urban placed fourth in the 300 meter hurdles (51.24).

The TMP girls 4×800 meter relay team placed third (11:10.27).

Paris Wolf recorded the fifth best distance in the girls triple jump finishing with a distance of 32’ 3.75”.

Hays soccer drops close one to Liberal

The shots were there, they just wouldn’t go in for Hays High.  The Indians dropped a 1-0 match to Liberal on Thursday at Hays High School.  Liberal scored the game’s lone goal with just under 16 minutes remaining in the second half.  Hays tallied eleven shots on goal, but could not find the back of the net.  The Redskins has just three shots on goal the entire game.  Hays drops to 3-2 on the season and 0-1 in Western Athletic Conference play.  The Indians will host Junction City on Monday.
