Blue Jays infielder Cliff Pennington relieved in the ninth inning, becoming the first primarily position player to pitch in the postseason, STATS said.

Familiar faces ready to star (again) in Big 12 this season

big 12 XIIKANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – Kansas is the preseason pick to win its 12th consecutive Big 12 title.

All-American forward Perry Ellis opted to return for his senior season, and he’ll be joined by talented guards Wayne Selden, Frank Mason and Devonte Graham, all players who logged crucial minutes as the Jayhawks rolled to another conference championship last season.

But there is plenty of talent around the league. Oklahoma returns All-American guard Buddy Hield, who may have been a first-round pick had he declared for the draft after last season. He’ll be joined by fellow seniors Isaiah Cousins and Ryan Spangler, who also started all 35 games for Oklahoma a year ago.

Iowa State may have a new coach in Steve Prohm, but Georges Niang, Jameel McKay and Naz Long are seniors with high expectations.

Blue Jays bats chase Cueto in game three win; Royals lead ALCS 2-1

TORONTO (AP) – Troy Tulowitzki and Josh Donaldson each homered in a six-run third inning, and Toronto’s bats broke out at home for an 11-8 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Monday night that trimmed the Blue Jays’ deficit to 2-1 in the AL Championship Series.

Ryan Goins also connected and had a two-run single, one game after his misplayed pop fly set off Kansas City’s winning rally Sunday.

Veteran knuckleballer R.A. Dickey will try to get the Blue Jays even in the best-of-seven series Tuesday afternoon. He faces Kansas City’s 6-foot-10 right-hander Chris Young in Game 4.

In the first ALCS game in Toronto since 1993, Tulowitzki connected for a three-run shot off Johnny Cueto, and Donaldson hit a two-run drive off Kris Medlen as the Blue Jays hit their first home runs of the series.

Cueto failed to retire a batter in the third inning, allowing eight runs and six hits in the worst postseason start of his career.

Hays High Golf 3rd At State; Brungardt and DeBoer Top 5

By Dustin Armbruster

The Hays High Lady Indian golf team wasn’t quite able to defend their 2014 state title.  However their third place finish on Monday was still a major accomplishment.

All season Katie Brungardt and Taylor DeBoer battled at the top of the leaderboard, consistently finishing in the top five.  But for the majority of the season the team finishes didn’t match up.  The team was made up of inexperienced players outside of Brungardt and Deboer.  Four of the players didn’t even own clubs, playing the season with borrowed equipment.

FHSU football jumps back into receiving votes section of AFCA poll

FHSU Athletics

WACO, Texas – After a one-week hiatus from the AFCA Division II Poll, Fort Hays State jumped back into the receiving votes section on Monday (Oct. 19). The Tigers dropped out of the receiving votes section last week for the first time this season, but jumped back in following a 27-24 win over No. 13 ranked Emporia State in Hays this past Saturday.

The Tigers (5-2) are receiving 19 votes this week, sixth in order of teams receiving votes not in the top 25. Emporia State (6-1) dropped to No. 19 this week after its loss to FHSU. Northwest Missouri State held steady at No. 3 in the nation, still unbeaten at 7-0. The Tigers head to Northwest Missouri State this weekend, looking to hand a team its first blemish of the season for the second weekend in a row. Pittsburg State (4-3), which sat at No. 22 last week, dropped completely out of the poll after a loss to Northwest Missouri State. Central Missouri (5-2) joins FHSU in the receiving votes section this week with five votes.

Northwest Missouri State will be Fort Hays State’s third ranked opponent of the season. The Tigers are 1-1 against ranked teams so far this year. The loss came to a then No. 15 ranked Pittsburg State team in Week 4.

The Tigers gained a big win last week in regards to potential postseason play. Each game from here on out is critical to Fort Hays State’s postseason chances. Broncos logoCLEVELAND (AP) — Peyton Manning shook off three interceptions and drove Denver in range for Brandon McManus’ 34-yard field goal with 4:56 left in overtime, giving the unbeaten Broncos a 26-23 win over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.

Manning took the Broncos from their 12 to the Cleveland 16 before McManus kicked his game-winner to make Denver 6-0 for the seventh time in franchise history. The Broncos only rallied thanks to their top-ranked defense, which came up big in overtime.

After Manning’s third pick, Denver recorded two sacks to push the Browns (2-4) out of field-goal range.

Given another chance, Manning took over. He completed 4 of 4 passes for 39 yards on the last drive.

The extra period came after a frenetic fourth quarter during which Cleveland took the lead on an interception return only to have Manning take it back 14 seconds later with a 75-yard touchdown pass.

ChiefsMINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota’s defense and rookie wide receiver Stefon Diggs bailed out Teddy Bridgewater for an erratic performance, and the Vikings held on to beat the mistake-prone Kansas City Chiefs 16-10 on Sunday.

Alex Smith’s 42-yard touchdown pass to Albert Wilson midway through the fourth quarter pulled the Chiefs within three points, but the Vikings (3-2) played well enough early to survive their ragged finish.

Charcandrick West, one of their replacements for the injured Chiefs star Jamaal Charles, lost a fumble down the stretch. The Chiefs (1-5) had eight penalties enforced for 95 yards.

Diggs had 129 yards on seven catches on a day when Bridgewater threw two interceptions. Adrian Peterson, who was on the sideline late in the game with the Vikings trying to put it away, finished with 60 yards on 26 carries.
