Hays High Rolls Over Great Bend

IndianBOYS: Hays High 49, Great Bend 20
Hays and Great Bend were supposed to play last Friday night to end the regular season, but mother nature had other plans.

The Indians and the Panthers however still met up, but in the first round of the sub-state tournament.  The result was all Hays High, winning 49-20.

Hays never trailed in the game, that was tied at three and five before a 10-2 run covering the end of the first quarter and beginning of the second quarter but Hays up 17-7.  Hays eventually lead 20-9 and the lead was never again cut to single figures.  The Indians finished the second quarter on a 11-1 run grabbing a twenty point half time lead 31-11.

Great Bend scored just two second half field goals and never pushed the Indians rest of the way.

Hays shot 18-34 (53%) from the field and 2-10 on threes.  Great Bend was held to just 17% shooting on 6-35, while making just 4 of 19 behind the arc.

The Indians out-rebounded Great Bend 29-23 while turning the ball over just 11 times.

Great Bend never scored more than seven points in any quarter.

Hays was led by Brady Werth with 19 points.  Derek Bixenman tied his season high with 12.  Overall eight different Indians scored on their makeshift senior night when both boys and girls basketball seniors were honored along with senior dancers, cheerleaders and band members.

Hays improves to 13-7 on the year, Great Bend ends their season at 5-15.

The Indians play at home on Saturday against the Liberal Redskins in the sub-state championship game.  Liberal beat Maize South 68-49 on the road.  It will be the third meeting between the Hays and Liberal.  The Indians won the two prior meetings earlier this season.  Game time is 6:00.
