5th Straight Loss for TMP

   TMP couldn’t get anthing going offensively or defensivley on Friday Night in a 59-0 loss to Phillipsburg.  The Monarch weren’t able to crack 100 yards of total offense and turned the ball over 5 times.  TMP will be at home next week to take on Russell in the 1st round.

HHS Boys Soccer Rallies Past Liberal

The Hays High boys soccer team scored two goals in the final six minutes to force overtime then scored 3 1/2 minutes into overtime to defeat Liberal 3-2 Thursday at Hays High.

Hays trailed 2-0 at the break. Kellen Griffin scored the two second half goals to tie the game. The first in the 75th minute on an assist from Josue Lopez. The second a minute later on a cross from Shawn Herrman. Herrman scored the game-winner in overtime on an assist from Cody Brown.

The Indians are now 5-6-2 and 3-3-1 in the Western Athletic Conference.

TMP Boys Cross Country 3rd, Girls 4th at Sterling

The TMP-Marian boys cross country team finished third and the girls fourth at Thursday’s the Sterling Invitational. Heather Ruder (15:11.91) won the girls race by a little less than five seconds over Hillsboro’s Emily Sechrist.

Andrew Hess was the top finisher for the Monarch boys, coming in 14th (18:13.28).

HHS Boys Soccer Loses Wild Match in Dodge City


Hays led 1-0 at the half on a Graydon Olson goal. Dodge scored in the 53rd and 67th minute to take the lead. The Indians answered with a Jordan Windholz goal off a rebound of a Shawn Herrman shot one minute later to tie.

Dodge scores 38 seconds later to go up 3-2 but the Indians tie it on Windholz’s second goal of the match in the 78th minute, but it wouldn’t stand as the Red Demons found the back of the net with 24 seconds to play to win it.

The loss drops the Indians to 4-6-2 and 2-2-1 in the Western Athletic Conference.

HHS Girls’ Golfers 2nd at Great Bend Invite

The Hays High girls’ golf team finishes second at the Great Bend Invitational Tuesday the Stoneridge Country Club.

The Indians shoot a 214, 42 shots behind first place Garden City. Hays placed two in the top-10 led by Courtney Hess who was sixth with a 51. Elissa Jensen finished eighth with a 53.

FHSU Men’s Soccer Drops to No. 18

The Fort Hay sState men’s soccer team dropped to No. 18 in the NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division II Men’s National Poll released today (Oct. 2) by the NSCAA. The Tigers were ranked No. 9 last week, but went 1-1 in this week’s matches, including a 1-0 loss to now No. 10 Lindenwood.

The Tigers, currently 8-2 and 4-1 in the MIAA, are ranked for the fifth straight week, a streak that dates back to the first regular season poll. FHSU was unranked in the preseason poll.

FHSU went 1-1 last week with a 7-0 record-setting win over SBU and a 1-0 loss to Lindenwood. The seven goals are the most scored in a single game for FHSU and the largest margin of victory. Five Tigers scored in the win. In the loss to Lindenwood, the Lions scored the only goal in the 58th minute and shutout the Tigers.

For the first time all season, the Tigers fell in the Central Region ranking, moving to No. 2. Lindenwood jumped to No. 1 with Northeastern State third and Truman fourth.

FHSU is one of two MIAA teams ranked as Lindenwood leaped to No. 10 after being No. 21 last week. Northeastern State received votes in the poll.

This weekend, the Tigers welcome two non-conference foes to the FHSU Soccer Stadium.Eastern New Mexico plays FHSU on Friday (Oct. 5) at 2 p.m. and then No. 11 West Texas A&M takes the pitch at 12 p.m. on Sunday (Oct. 7).

FHSU’s Linscott MIAA Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week

Kansas City, Mo. — Southwest Baptist’s Phillip Miller earned MIAA Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week honors while Gentry Linscott earned MIAA Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week honors for week five.

Linscott helped the FHSU women to a winning effort in the ESU Invitational in Emporia, Kan. The Tigers had 42 teams points defeating Baker by 24 points overall to win the race. Linscott earned a fourth place overall finish with a time of 18:22 on the 5K course. She was the first runner to scored a team point in the race as she trailed unattached runners. She was 22 second off the race winning pace. The junior is from Effingham, Kan. where she competed at Atchison County High School.

FHSU’s Humphrey MIAA Women’s Soccer Player of the Week

Kansas City, Mo. — Fort Hays State’s Sade Humphrey earned MIAA Women’s Soccer Athlete of the Week honors for week number five.

Humphrey scored four goals in three games for the Tigers, putting in two against Friends and one each in games against Washburn and Emporia State. She had the game winning goal in FHSU’s wins over Friends and Emporia State. The game winner against Friends came in the first half as she found the right post from the left side for the goal. The game winner against Emporia State came three minutes into the second half as she deflected the ball into the goal off a corner kick. She finished the week with a total of ten points with four goals and two assists as she had goals on four of her nine shots during the week. The 5-6 senior forward is a native of Salina, Kan. where she competed at Salina Central High School before transferring to FHSU from Newman University.

Russell Wins TMP-Marian Golf Invite

Russell shot a 445 and wins the TMP-Marian Golf Invitational Monday at the Smoky Hill Country Club. The Monarchs shot a 520 and finished eighth. Jordin Greer of Hoisington was top medalist with a 99. The Monarchs Monica Michaud shot a 119 and finished 10th.
