Tebow Led Broncos Rally For Win In Oakland

(Photo/denverbroncos.com)

OAKLAND,Calif.(AP) – Eddie Royal returned a punt 85 yards for the tiebreaking score, Willie McGahee ran for 163 yards and Tim Tebow threw two touchdown passes to lead the Denver

Broncos to a 38-24 victory over the Oakland Raiders on Sunday.

McGahee had a 60-yard touchdown run that tied the game on the first play after Carson Palmer threw his second of three interceptions for the Raiders (4-4). McGahee then added a 24-yarder to ice it.

The Broncos (3-5) didn’t allow the Raiders’ offense to generate anything in the fourth quarter and won for the second time in three games with Tebow as the starter.

Tebow did much of his damage with his legs, rushing for a career-high 117 yards on 12 carries.

He did enough damage with his arm to keep the Raiders honest, throwing touchdowns to Eric Decker and Royal.

Hays High Falls To Hutchinson, 27-21

Despite home field advantage and the defense coming up with 5 fumble recoveries, the Indians fall to Hutchinson Friday night, 27-21.

Unfortunately, the Indians had their chances, but just failed to capitalize on scoring opportunities.

The Indians led once in the 1st quarter, 14-7, but never led again. Hays High came up with a touchdown on a run from QB Austin Unrein late in the 4th to make  the score 27-21. With a little over 5 minutes remaining in the game, Hay High attempted the onside kick, but never got a hold of the ball again. The Salthawks ran out the clock, and came away with the victory.

Hutchinson had 455 total yards, Hays High had 261.

Plainville Cardinals Football On Y102

Plainville returns to the Class 2-1A playoffs in 2011 to face Sacred Heart in Salina tonight. The Cardinals have made it to the postseason four times now in the last six years but will looking for their first playoff win since 1992.

Plainville (8-1) suffered their first loss of the season a week ago in LaCrosse, 14-8. That loss sent the Cardinals packing for the opening round which will kickoff at 7PM from Salina Stadium.

The Cardinals still have the 6th best scoring offense in Class 2-1A at a mark of 40 points per game. Plainville has evened the carries out in their powerful rushing attack to four guys. Trevor Axelson, Harrison Gilliland, Dalton Werner, and Kyle Becker each have over 50 carries so far this year. Axelson leads the way with 1,085 yards on 99 carries.

Coach Joe Simon, now in his 3rd year with the Cards, feels like it did his team good to play in a game like last week in LaCrosse. The intense atmosphere should have them mentally focused and sharp for the start of the playoffs.

Sacred Heart (6-3) has won four straight games since starting the season 2-3. The Knights bring in a more balanced attack, but will look for junior Drew Diederich to get things going in their ground game.

The one similar opponent both Sacred Heart and Plainville played this year was LaCrosse. The Knights lost to the Leopards 42-13 back in week 5 of the regular season. The Cardinals dropped their game to LaCrosse by six last Friday.

The winner tonight will take on either Ellis or Stanton County next weekend. Kickoff from Salina is set for 7:00 and the Fort Hays State University Office of Admissions Pregame Show begins at 6:30 on The Country Bull, Y102.

FHSU's Joanne Glynne and Cindy Benitez (above) along with Jamie Babyak have been named to the MIAA All-Conference soccer team.

Three Tigers earned All-MIAA Soccer honors released by the MIAA office today (Nov. 2). Cindy Benitez and Joanne Glynn were named All-MIAA Second Team, and Jamie Babyak was named All-MIAA Honorable Mention. The Fort Hays State women’s soccer team recently completed their first season in school history.

Benitez, a junior midfielder from Garden City, Kan., led the team in assists with six and tied the team-high in points with Glynn at 20 points. She added seven goals to go along with her six assists; including a two-goal and two-assist game in a 4-0 win against Missouri Western. For her performance against the Griffons, Benitez earned MIAA Student-Athlete of the Week honors, becoming the first Tiger to earn the honor. Benitez started 15 games on the season and appeared in 16 games total for FHSU.

Glynn, a sophomore forward from Lakewood, Colo., led the Tigers in goals with nine and tied Benitez for points with a team-high 20. She added two assists to go with the nine goals. Her best performance came in a 2-1 win over Missouri Western where Glynn scored twice, including the game-winning goal. Glynn made 16 starts for the Tigers and appeared in 17 games for the Tigers this season.

On the season, Babyak totaled one goal and two assists for the Tigers. Her lone goal came in a 3-0 win over McPherson when Babyak hit a strike off a free kick from 30-yards out. She was part of a Tiger defense that allowed 1.5 goals a game.

The women’s soccer team finished their inaugural season 6-11-1 overall and 2-6 in the MIAA.
