NASHVILLE (AP) – Look for Carrie Underwood to be wearing a lot of gold nail polish soon. Nail polish maker Nicole By OPI has created a signature gold shade called Carrie’d Away for Underwood. She has signed an endorsement deal with the company, which has created 13 other nail polishes with Underwood in mind. They will be available at mass retailers beginning in January.

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) – A judge in Georgia has set an October 4 trial date for Billy Currington. The country star has been charged with threatening a 70-year-old tour boat captain who was cruising past the dock of a waterfront home where the singer was staying. During yesterday’s hearing, Currington’s attorney entered a not guilty plea for the singer. The boat captain and his two passengers said they were cruising along the creek when a man became irate, jumped into his own boat and chased them. When the boat docked, they say Currington cursed the captain and said he and his brother would catch him in the river and “finish him off.” Currington is charged with making terroristic threats and abuse of an elderly person. Each count is a felony punishable by one to five years in prison.

NASHVILLE (AP) – Chris Young is still in a Denver hospital in stable condition with a leg infection. Young says in a statement he didn’t even know he was sick when he was on the way to Kalispell, Montana, for a concert last night that didn’t happen. He says one minute he was fine and the next he was being rushed to a hospital. The origin of the infection is not known. Young has called off all his appearances for the next week. He plans to be back on stage in Redding, California, next Wednesday.

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) – The Backstreet Boys, Paula Abdul and Luke Bryan are among the acts who will appear on this year’s Muscular Dystrophy Association telethon. Darius Rucker, Lee Ann Womack, Enrique Iglesias, Kenny Loggins, No Doubt drummer Adrian Young, “The Voice” finalist Chris Mann and “American Idol” runner-up Jessica Sanchez will also appear. The MDA telethon will run September 1 on ABC.

NASHVILLE (AP) – The Country Music Association is sticking with a winning formula for the CMA Awards. Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley will return to host the awards for the sixth year in a row. They’ve got a long way to go to beat Vince Gill’s record. He hosted the CMAs 11 times. The CMAs will be November 6. Nominees will be announced next month.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Usually when a music artist has a big album, they start dropping CD’s like a dandruff sufferer drops off flakes of scalp. But Luke Bryan is taking a different approach. He says he wants to get new music to his fans as soon as possible – but he also says he doesn’t want to show up everywhere at once. Bryan won this year’s Academy of Country Music entertainer of the year in April – and since then has turned down nearly every offer that has come his way. He says since it’s only his “first year in” he wants to continue to develop as an entertainer. He says he has a couple of albums ready to be released before the year is out – but for now wants to make sure that he can live up to the entertainer of the year crown he won a few months back.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Tompall Glaser has died. The country music singer, publisher and studio owner was 79 and his nephew says he died in Nashville after a long illness. Glaser is best known for his association with the outlaw movement against record labels. Glaser performed with his brothers as the Glaser Brothers in the 1950s and moved to Nashville after meeting Marty Robbins, who had the brothers sing backup for him. Glaser and his brothers began to chafe under the label system in place in the 1960’s and 70’s. And along with Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and Kris Kristofferson, they rebelled against Music Row.

A federal judge has administratively closed Curb‘s lawsuit against Tim McGraw and Big Machine pending resolution of the related action in Tennessee court. Curb filed to extend the ongoing legal battle to federal court in the spring. McGraw moved to Big Machine in 2011 following a Tennessee court ruling that denied Curb’s request for an injunction preventing him from recording elsewhere.

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) – Darius Rucker has had a street named after him. It’s in North Charleston, South Carolina. The street that now bears his name leads up to the North Charleston Coliseum where Hootie and the Blowfish played in the 1990s – shortly after the arena opened. Rucker grew up in the Charleston area – and was on hand for the ceremony yesterday. Rucker is now a solo country artist – and says he may return to the venue this fall to play some of his newer music.

Loretta Lynn will receive thePresidential Medal Of Freedom from President Obama, the nation’s highest civilian award. The medal is bestowed for “an especially meritorious contribution to the security or national interests of the United States, world peace, cultural or other significant public or private endeavors.” She joins fellow recipients Oprah Winfrey, Patricia Ward, Cordy Tindell “C.T.” Vivian, Gloria Steinem, Dean Smith, Arturo Sandoval, Bayard Rustin, Sally Ride, Mario Molina, Richard Lugar, Daniel Kahneman, Daniel Inouye, Bill Clinton, Ben Bradlee and Ernie Banks. The awards will be presented at a ceremony later this year.

Gene Watson joins Yolanda Adams, Jewel Brown, Geto Boys, La Mafia, Los Skarnales, Mydolls, J Paul Jr. & The Zydeco Nubreeds, Joe Sample and ZZ Top as the first artists inducted into the Houston Music Hall Of Fame.
