KHAZ Country Music News: Jason Aldean: “I’m Not Scared of Falling on My Face”

khaz jason aldean 20130212Jason Aldean has learned by trial and error what he can and can’t do in country music. It turns out headlining stadium shows is one of the things he does very well. Jason will play Chicago’s Wrigley Field Saturday after performing two sold-out dates at Boston’s Fenway Park last weekend. Triumphant moments like this are the result of taking risks over the course of his career.

“I have always tried to do things in my career that would push myself, and by doing that I have figured out what I could do well and what I couldn’t do well,” Jason tells the Chicago Sun-Times. “I’m not scared of falling on my face. God knows I have done that plenty of times.”

Fans at the Wrigley Field show will get to hear Jason duet with show opener, Kelly Clarkson, on their monster hit “Don’t You Wanna Stay.”  Jake Owen and Thomas Rhett are also on the bill.

KHAZ Country Music News: Dierks Bentley Adds His Voice to Outcry Against “Rolling Stone” Boston Marathon Bomber Cover

khaz dierks bentley 20120702Dierks Bentley is the latest public figure to speak out against the Rolling Stone cover featuring a photo of Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokar Tsarnaev.  Dierks posted a picture of someone, presumably himself, holding the magazine, with the tweet, “childish but had to d-ck the cover of @rollingstone in airport. Keep your 1st amendment & ill keep my 7 bucks. #mericah.”

As previously reported, some members of the media claim the image — a self-taken photo that shows the 19-year-old Russian immigrant with tousled hair — is reminiscent of pictures of rock icons like Bob Dylan and The DoorsJim Morrison that previously have graced the front of the magazine.

Brad Paisley also tweeted against the Rolling Stone cover Wednesday, saying it was “in poor taste.”

Tsarnaev pleaded not guilty last week to 30 counts associated with the bombing.  He’s accused of working with his older brother, Tamerlan, to set off a pair of bombs near the finish line of the Boston Marathon on April 15 that killed three and injured more than 260 others.

KHAZ Country Music News: Kip Moore Is Happy, but Not Surprised with the Success of His Debut Album, “Up All Night”

khaz kip moore 20130614Kip Moore is happy his debut album, Up All Night, is a big success, but he’s not completely surprised by his good fortune. Even when he was getting turned down left and right trying to get his career started, Kip always believed in himself and his music.

He says, “If you don’t believe in yourself, then there’s no point in doing it.”

Kip’s attitude paid off big time with his back-to-back #1 hits, “Somethin’ ‘Bout a Truck” and “Beer Money.”  His latest single, “Hey Pretty Girl,” is rising fast towards the top of the chart this summer.

“To be potentially having a third #1 off the debut record is something I could have never really fathomed,” Kip says. “I’m so humbled by the whole thing. I  can’t believe where my career is at right now.  It’s mind-blowing at times.”

There are surely a few more hits Kip could pull from Up All Night, but he’s set on releasing a new single from a new album once “Hey Pretty Girl” runs its course.

He explains, “I’m just itching to get to this next project.  I’m just ready to give people a new body of work.  I don’t want to be one of those people that’s sitting around with the same record for two-and-a-half, three years.”

Luckily, Kip has a record label that listens to him and lets him have a big voice in the course of his career.

“I’m so excited for this next chapter,” Kip says. “I’ve let ’em hear some of the stuff, and we’re all on board.”

Kip continues to tour relentlessly.  See where he’s playing next at KipMoore.net.

KHAZ Country Music News: Keith Urban Keen to Collaborate with Little Big Town and Dustin Lynch on Light the Fuse Tour

khaz keith urban 20130718Fans attending Keith Urban‘s Light the Fuse tour can expect to hear some brand-new music from his upcoming album, Fuse. The trek launches Thursday night in Cincinnati, and Keith can’t wait to see what the audience thinks of his new songs. The project won’t be out until the fall.

He says, “I’ve never had that happen before where an album has come out after we’ve hit the road. I’ll be doing several songs or more off the album that people don’t know, but I’m really looking forward to that.”

Another highlight of the Light the Fuse tour will be Keith’s collaborations with his opening acts, Little Big Town and Dustin Lynch. Keith and LBT gave fans a little preview of the tour with their powerhouse cover of Fleetwood Mac‘s “The Chain” at last month’s CMT Music Awards.

Speaking of that performance, Little Big Town’s Jimi Westbrook says, “The energy that night was unbelievable.” He adds, “I think we were all feeling like we were just trying to hold on. I think it made for a real moment that was happening.”

Jimi’s wife and band mate, Karen Fairchild, agrees saying, “Keith brings it, and all I’ve got to say is you better bring it when you step on stage with him.  It was a moment that we’ll cherish forever, and now it makes me incredibly excited to see what might happen on the tour this summer.”

Collaborating with his opening acts keeps things interesting for Keith too.

He explains, “I just like working with people and seeing what comes of those energies coming together, ’cause it’s always different.”

Keith’s Light the Fuse tour will be on the road through December.

KHAZ Country Music News: Brad Paisley Speaks Out About “Rolling Stone” Cover Featuring Boston Marathon Bomber

khaz brad paisley 20121011Rolling Stone‘s decision to put a photo of Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokar Tsarnaev on the cover of its upcoming issue has generated some harsh criticism, with many people, including Brad Paisley, taking to the Internet to condemn the magazine for what they see as glorifying the alleged terrorist.

According to some members of the media, the image — a self-taken photo that shows the 19-year-old Russian immigrant with tousled hair — is reminiscent of pictures of rock icons like Bob Dylan and The DoorsJim Morrison that previously have graced the front of the magazine.

Brad tweeted, “I have to say, the Rolling Stone Magazine cover with the bomber is in poor taste. We shouldn’t make rock stars out of murderers.”

The headline on the cover reads, “The Bomber. How a popular, promising student was failed by his family, fell into radical Islam and became a monster.”  Thousands of people have left comments on Rolling Stone‘s official Facebook page, most denouncing the magazine for putting Tsarnaev on the cover.

Boston mayor Thomas Menino, meanwhile, sent a pointed letter to Rolling Stone publisher Jann Wenner, calling the cover “ill-conceived” and suggesting that it “rewards a terrorist with celebrity treatment.”  The mayor also maintained that the survivors of bombings “deserve Rolling Stone cover stories, though I no longer feel that Rolling Stone deserves them.”

In addition, several New England-area stores have vowed to not sell the issue, including CVS, Tedeschi Food Shops, Cumberland Farms and Walgreens.

Rolling Stone‘s editors released a statement on Wednesday defending their decision to use the Tsarnaev photo.

“Our hearts go out to the victims of the Boston Marathon bombing, and our thoughts are always with them and their families,” reads the message.  “The cover story we are publishing this week falls within the traditions of journalism and Rolling Stone‘s long-standing commitment to serious and thoughtful coverage of the most important political and cultural issues of our day.”

The editors also point out that because Tsarnaev is “in the same age group as many of our readers,” they feel that “makes it all the more important for us to examine the complexities of this issue.”

While the issue doesn’t hit stores until Friday, the article, which was written by Janet Reitman can be read at RollingStone.com now.  According to Rolling Stone, the journalist spent two months talking to “childhood and high school friends, teachers, neighbors and law enforcement agents” about Tsarnaev and the investigation into the bombing.

Tsarnaev pleaded not guilty last week to 30 counts associated with the bombing.  He’s is accused of working with his older brother, Tamerlan, to set off a pair of bombs near the finish line of the Boston Marathon on April 15 that killed three and injured more than 260 others.

KHAZ Country Music News: Randy Travis’s Brother Charged with Running Meth Lab in North Carolina Home

khaz randy travis 20120808Randy Travis isn’t the only member of his family facing rough times these days. While the country star recovers from brain surgery following a stroke in a Dallas-area hospital, Travis’s brother, David Traywick, has been arrested for allegedly running a meth lab in his North Carolina home.

According to KRJH-TV, the 50-year-old Traywick was taken into custody Tuesday night in Marshville, NC along with his wife, Jessica, and two other women. They were charged with conspiracy to traffic meth.  Traywick was also arrested for cooking meth in his home in September 2012.

Randy Travis is getting closer to breathing on his own after undergoing brain surgery last week. Doctors expect it will take several months for him to recover from the stroke he suffered while hospitalized for a heart condition, idiopathic cardiomyopathy, a weakening of the heart muscle due to scar tissue.

KHAZ Country Music News: Dustin Lynch Ready to Get Fans Fired Up for Keith Urban on Light the Fuse Tour

khaz dustin lynch 20130717Dustin Lynch is primed and ready to hit the road with Keith Urban and Little Big Town on Keith’s Light the Fuse tour, launching Thursday night in Cincinnati.  Snagging a spot on this trek is an honor for Dustin because he sees it as a vote of confidence from Keith.

“He trusts me,” Dustin says. “I think he wouldn’t have me out there if he didn’t think I could get everybody fired up.”

Since Dustin is the first opening act on the bill, he jokes that he’ll be out there helping the fans find their seats.  He says with a laugh, “That’s what they’ll be doing when I’m on stage.”

If the fans don’t make it for all of Dustin’s opening set, they’ll get to see him again for the finale performing with Keith and Little Big Town at the end of Keith’s headlining set.

Says Dustin, “That’s probably the biggest thing I’m nervous about — is having to get on stage with him and Little Big Town.”

We’ve got a feeling Dustin will get into the groove of performing with Keith and LBT soon enough.  He’ll be on the road with Keith through December.

KHAZ Country Music News: Randy Travis Is in Critical but Stable Condition Following Brain Surgery

khaz randy travis 20120925Randy Travis remains in critical condition at the Heart Hospital Baylor Plano in Texas, but his condition has stabilized.

Travis was hospitalized July 7 with a heart condition. Doctors now say he is suffering from idiopathic cardiomyopathy, which means his heart muscle is weakened due to scar tissue, not viral myocarditis as they originally suspected.

Dr. Michael Mack, a cardiac surgeon and the medical director of cardiovascular disease at Baylor Health Care System in Dallas says the heart condition is related to the singer’s family history, and not caused by drugs or alcohol.

Travis also suffered a stroke while in the hospital and underwent surgery to relieve pressure on his brain.  He has since awakened from that surgery and is responding to people. Travis’s fiancée, Mary Davis, says, “He’s miles beyond where any of us thought he would be a few days ago.”

Dr. Jed Erwin, an intensivist at the hospital, says the singer is “awake and alert interacting with his family and friends and beginning to start doing some early physical therapy.”

Travis is breathing using a ventilator, but doctors anticipate he’ll be breathing on his own very soon. They expect to keep him hospitalized for the next two to three weeks before transferring him to an inpatient facility for ” aggressive” physical therapy. The recovery from the stroke is expected to take months.
