KHAZ Country Music News: Brantley Gilbert Auctioning Off Ram Truck to Benefit Iraq and Afghanistan War Veterans

khaz brantley gilbert 20130206You may never be able to chill out with Brantley Gilbert cruising down the road in his truck, but now you can at least own Brantley’s truck.  He’s been driving a 2012 Ram 1500 Laramie Longhorn for the past year, and that truck is now up for bid at Ebay.com/RoadtoRamJam as part of the Road to the Ram Jam All-Star Country Music Series.

Brantley made sure to take good care of the truck, though he tells ABC News Radio, “We’ve had it in a mud hole or two, and it’s done some donuts.  But it’s still in perfect condition.”

In order to keep the truck in great shape, Brantley wouldn’t allow smoking or dogs in the vehicle.

He says, “You know, I’ve got a pitbull.  I may or may not have kept that rule, but I hope I broke it in well for ’em.”

Proceeds from the sale of Brantley’s truck will go to the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, or IAVA.  That organization helps soldiers find work and education when they get out of the service, and Brantley supports military-related causes like this because of his cousin, who is currently serving as a Marine.

“I definitely, definitely support ’em,” Brantley says.  “I miss my boy too.  I’m ready for him to come home, so this is my way of kind of keeping in contact.”

Brantley is one of five country stars auctioning off their Ram trucks for a good cause.  Kellie Pickler raised more than $36,000 last week for the USO Warrior and Family Care program.  Billy Currington, Easton Corbin and Zac Brown Band are also taking part in the Road to the Ram Jam campaign.

KHAZ Country Music News: Tim McGraw Looking Forward to Long Road Ahead with “Two Lanes of Freedom,” Now in Stores

khaz tim mcgraw 20130205Tim McGraw‘s new album, Two Lanes of Freedom, is now in stores, and he hasn’t been this excited about releasing new music in a very long time.  For his past few albums, Tim has had to wait up to two years from the time he recorded his new music to the time it was released due to a legal battle with his former label, Curb Records.  Tim is now signed to Big Machine Records, and knowing his music would be released just months after he recorded it gave him a very positive outlook in the studio.

“I think the thing that we felt, and I felt more than anything, was knowing what was gonna happen afterwards  — that we had a plan,” Tim tells ABC News Radio.  “We didn’t have to sit on this music and not have to sit and worry about how it was all going to work.  So, there was a sense of optimism going in.”

That sense of optimism came into focus on the title track, “Two Lanes of Freedom,” which Tim recorded very early in the record-making process.

He says, “When we recorded that song, it sort of raised its hand and said, ‘This is what the record is going to revolve around.'”  Tim adds, “Every other song sort of just fed off of that song.”

In addition to the title cut and the current hit, “One of Those Nights,” Two Lanes of Freedom also features guest appearances from Taylor Swift and Keith Urban on the track “Highway Don’t Care.”  Getting Taylor, Keith and Tim in the same room at the same time proved to be impossible due to their crazy schedules, but modern technology allowed them to contribute their parts from three different studios at three different times.

“The modern ways of recording are so much better, so it’s so much easier.  So you just shoot a track over to somebody,” Tim explains.  “So, I shot it over to Taylor, and she went in the studio when she was working and laid her vocal down, and Keith did the same.  He was working and went in and laid his guitar track down.”

Though they weren’t all in the same room for the recording session, Tim says, “It couldn’t have turned out any better.”

Tim McGraw is making multiple TV appearances this week to promote Two Lanes of Freedom including a performance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show Tuesday.  He stops by NBC’s Tonight Show with Jay Leno on Wednesday and ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Thursday.

Reba’s on-screen relationship with Lily Tomlin, who plays her character’s mother Lillie Mae, also mirrors Reba’s relationship with her real-life mom Jackie.

“We were buddies, best friends, and that’s the way we are on the TV show,” Reba says of that mother-daughter dynamic. As for working with Lily, Reba says, “She’s wonderful to work with.  To hang out with.  I just love it.”

KHAZ Country Music News: Tim McGraw Torn Between the 49ers and the Ravens in This Sunday’s Super Bowl

khaz tim mcgraw 20120807Tim McGraw is having trouble choosing sides between the San Francisco 49ers and the Baltimore Ravens in this Sunday’s Super Bowl.  On the one hand, his father is from San Francisco, and his uncle still lives in the area.  Tim says, “San Francisco is interesting ’cause they’re young and they’re very talented, and I think it’s gonna be tough to beat ’em.”

As for the Ravens, Tim’s buddy Michael Oher plays on that team.  You’ll recall Tim starred in the film The Blind Side that told the story of Michael’s rise from the projects to the NFL.

We may never know who Tim roots for this Sunday.  He says, “I think I’ll probably wake up that morning and decide which team I’m gonna pull for.”

Tim’s new album, Two Lanes of Freedom, lands in stores Tuesday featuring his latest hit, “One of Those Nights.”

KHAZ Country Music News: Randy Travis Headed to Rehab, Receives Two Years Probation in Naked DWI Case

khaz randy travis 20120808Randy Travis has been sentenced to 180 days in jail in connection with his naked DWI arrest last August in Texas, but he probably won’t serve any time behind bars.  Instead, Travis struck a deal for two years probation, 30 days in a rehab facility and 100 hours of community service.

Should Travis violate his probation, authorities could haul him in to serve the full 180 days behind bars.  Travis has also been ordered to install an ignition interlock device on any car he drives for the next two years.

The sentence is stiffer than most given to first-time DWI defendants, but Grayson County District Attorney Joe Brown says it was warranted since Travis was also charged with threatening the arresting officers in the incident.  Brown adds, “We are all hopeful that Mr. Travis is on the road to recovery.”

KHAZ Country Music News: Kenny Chesney to Release New Album, “Life on a Rock,” Due Out April 30

Kenny Chesney (BNA)It seems like Kenny Chesney‘s world keeps getting smaller and smaller judging by his recent album titles.  His last project, Welcome to the Fishbowl, was named for a song all about having to deal with people in your business via Facebook or, in Kenny’s case, through the tabloids.  Now he’s turning his focus back to the small town ways of the people on an island with his new album, Life on a Rock, due out April 30.

Kenny wrote eight of the 10 songs on the album, and the project celebrates the friends he has made living in the Caribbean for the past few years.  Those people may be boatmen, bartenders, waitresses or real estate agents, but they all welcomed Kenny into their unhurried way of life.

He says, “They took a country singer from East Tennessee into their tribe at a time when having friends outside everything I knew was important. Time passes, life moves on, but those friends lasted, and this album in a lot of ways is about the power of that kind of friendship to endure.”

The first single from Life on a Rock is “Pirate Flag.”  The new project also includes a collaboration with Willie Nelson and was recorded everywhere from Jamaica to London to Hawaii to Nashville to Key West.

KHAZ Country Music News: Little Big Town Ready to Say a Big Thank You to Their Fans on the Tornado Tour

khaz little big town 20121219Little Big Town‘s album Tornado turned out to be one of country’s biggest-selling albums in the past few months, and now they’re taking that new music on the road with the Tornado tour launching Thursday night in Murray, KY.  While they got a chance to sing some of the new music on the road with Rascal Flatts last year, this trek offers Little Big Town the chance to perform every song on Tornado if they so choose.

Little Big Town’s Kimberly Schlapman tells ABC News Radio, “I don’t think we’ve ever been as excited as we are about getting on tour because of that, ’cause there are a lot of fans who have bought this record.”

Tornado ended up spending five weeks at #1 on Billboard‘s Country Albums chart late last year, and Kimberly sees this tour as a chance to thank their fans for the support.

“It’s not a great economic time in our country, and people, when they fork out money for a record, that’s really special,” Kimberly explains.  “So, the fact that a lot of people have done that, we’re really appreciative and we are going to put our hearts and souls into this tour, and it’s gonna be fun.”

Country newcomer Kacey Musgraves is also on the Tornado tour, and it turns out she’s just as big a fan of Little Big Town as the fans in the audience.

Kacey tells ABC News Radio, “They are the sweetest people in the industry that I’ve probably ever met.  They are more deserving and hardworking than most people ever will be.”

Little Big Town’s latest hits “Pontoon” and “Tornado” featuring a funkier sound than most other songs on country radio these days, and Kacey thinks her straightforward songs like “Merry Go Round” will fit in nicely with Little Big Town’s catalog.  She’s also excited to showcase her music to a lot of first-time listeners in quite a few historic, intimate theaters on the trek.

Says Kacey, “I like rockin’, like, rowdy shows too, but that’s my favorite environment.”

Check out LittleBigTown.com for a full list of tour dates.
