KHAZ Country Music News: Blake Shelton Clarifies Statement that Offended Country Music Hall of Famer Ray Price

Blake Shelton (Warner Bros. Records)Blake Shelton took to Twitter Thursday to clear the air about some a statement he made that offended Country Music Hall of Fame member Ray Price.

It all started when Ray posted a Facebook link to a story at SavingCountryMusic.com pulling quotes from Blake’s GAC Backstory special on the evolution of country music.  Blake apparently said, “Nobody wants to listen to your grandpa’s music. And I don’t care how many of these old farts around Nashville going, ‘My God, that ain’t country!’  Well that’s because you don’t buy records anymore, jackass.  The kids do, and they don’t want to buy the music you were buying.”

Ray didn’t take kindly to that statement saying, “This guy sounds like in his own mind that his head is so large no hat ever made will fit him.  Stupidity Reigns Supreme!!!!”  Ray adds that Blake should be so lucky as to enjoy a career like his that spans 63 years.

Blake responded on Twitter saying Ray Price is one of his all time favorite artists.  Blake says, “I hate that I upset him…The truth is my statement was and STILL is about how we as the new generation of country artists have to keep re-inventing country music to keep it popular.”

Blake points out that Ray Price himself pushed the boundaries of country music in the ’60s adding lush strings to his hits such as “For the Good Times.”

Blake adds, “Perfect example with the introduction of a bigger orchestrated sound in country music.  It was new and awesome!!!”

Blake admits he isn’t the most tactful guy in country music saying, “I absolutely have no doubt I could have worded it better (as always ha!) and I apologize to Mr. Price and any other heroes of mine that it may offended.”

KHAZ Country Music News: Lee Greenwood Marks Thirty Years of “God Bless The USA”

khaz lee greenwood 20121206(AP) – This year is a special one for Lee Greenwood. He’s marking the 30th anniversary of “God Bless The U.S.A.” Greenwood wrote the song in 1983 in response to Russian authorities mistaking a Korean jet on its way from New York to Seoul for a spy plane and shooting it down with 269 passengers on board. Since then, it’s become an anthem during the Gulf War, after 9/11, during the Iraq War and after Hurricane Katrina. Greenwood says the song came so easily, it nearly wrote itself.

KHAZ Country Music News: Zac Brown Band OK with Being Known as “Chicken Fried” Guys

khaz zac brown band 20120626When a band’s debut hit is as recognizable and catchy as Zac Brown Band‘s “Chicken Fried,” it’s easy for the band members to think they’ll be defined by that song for the rest of their career.  Zac Brown Band drummer Chris Fryar admits they came to terms with being known as the “Chicken Fried” guys early on.

He tells Metropulse.com, “As the shows grew in size and the audiences got bigger and we put out You Get What You Give, and ‘Colder Weather’ seems to get just as many cheers as anything else on the set list.”

For those who aren’t as familiar with Zac Brown Band, “Chicken Fried” is still the group’s defining song though.

“If that’s what we’re known for to the uneducated, that’s fine,” says Chris. “Most people look at Jimmy Buffett and think, oh, it’s the ‘Margaritaville’ guy, and there’s a whole lot more to Jimmy Buffett than that.  There’s always going to be one song that people associate somebody with.”

Zac Brown Band will be performing “Chicken Fried” along with their many other #1 hits Friday night in Roanoke, VA.

KZ Country Cheesy Joke of the Day 1/24/13

khaz cheesy joke logo 20110802Thou Shalt Not Lie

A minister was walking down the street when he came upon a group of about a dozen boys, all of them between 10 and 12 years of age.

The group had surrounded a dog. Concerned lest the boys were hurting the dog, he went over and asked “What are you doing with that dog?”

One of the boys replied, “This dog is just an old neighborhood stray. We all want him, but only one of us can take him home. So we’ve decided that whichever one of us can tell the biggest lie will get to keep the dog.”

Of course, the reverend was taken aback. “You boys shouldn’t be having a contest telling lies!” he exclaimed. He then launched into a ten minute sermon against lying, beginning, “Don’t you boys know it’s a sin to lie,” and ending with, “Why, when I was your age, I never told a lie.”

There was dead silence for about a minute. Just as the reverend was beginning to think he’d gotten through to them, the smallest boy gave a deep sigh and said, “All right, give him the dog.”

KHAZ Country Music News: Miranda Lambert Announces The Pedigree Feeding Project Benefiting the Nation’s Shelter Dogs

khaz miranda lambert 20130124Miranda Lambert is an extremely vocal advocate for America’s shelter dogs, and now she’s teamed up with Pedigree to have an even bigger impact with the Pedigree Feeding Project. The initiative supplies pet shelters with 100 percent of their dog food needs at no cost. It’s already proven to be a big success in Nashville and Chicago, and now Miranda is asking people to nominate their community at Facebook.com/Pedigree to be the next city to benefit from the project.

Miranda says, “I’m amazed every day by the unconditional love I receive from all of my adopted dogs. That’s why it means so much to me to partner with Pedigree, a brand that truly believes in finding dogs loving homes as much as I do.”

Shelters benefiting from the Pedigree Feeding Project are able to redirect the money they would have spent on dog food to expanding their pet adoption programs.  The program also allows the shelters to make their facilities more like a home so the pets will be ready transition to life with a family when they are adopted.

The next communities to benefit from the Pedigree Feeding Project will be announced later this year.

CHRIS YOUNG, BRANTLEY GILBERT, CONNIE BRITTONA pair of real-life country stars are invading the fictional world of ABC’s Nashville Wednesday night.  Brantley Gilbert and Chris Young guest star as themselves in a party scene on the show alongside Hayden Panettiere‘s character, country star Juliette Barnes.

Before taking on the acting role, Brantley consulted with his personal acting coach – – fiancé Jana Kramer. She starred in TV’s One Tree Hill before launching her country career, and Brantley says with a laugh, “She definitely had some pointers but, you know, the part was playing myself so it wasn’t all that hard.”
