KHAZ Music News: Thompson Square Pens First Book

(AP) – Shawna and Keifer Thompson of Thompson Square have turned a hit song into a novel. They are releasing a book called “Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not?” next June. It centers around two characters who write music together and face a long and complicated road to love. The duo wrote the novel with Christian author Travis Thrasher.

KHAZ Music News: Miranda Lambert: Bring On The Girls

(AP) – Miranda Lambert wants to hear more women on country radio. She says she’s concerned that there are not more female singers breaking through. For three years in a row, Lambert has been named the Country Music Association female vocalist of the year. She says she kicked the door open and she’s going to hold her leg in there for more talented women to follow.

KHAZ Music News: Jason Aldean Big Week on TV

(AP) – Fans can catch Jason Aldean on TV nearly every day this week. Tomorrow night he’ll be playing his new single “The Only Way I Know” live on “The Voice.” On Thursday, he’ll be announcing nominees in a handful of categories for the People’s Choice Awards and playing the outdoor concert series on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” On Friday.

KHAZ Music News: Miranda Lambert Says No To Christmas Albums

(AP) – Miranda Lambert says she will “never” record a Christmas album. And fans can blame it on husband Blake Shelton. Lambert told Country Weekly that her husband wears her out with holiday tunes. She says “he listens to Christmas music all year round.” As much as she loves Christmas and Christmas music, Lambert says “he does enough for both” of them. Shelton’s album “Cheers, It’s Christmas” debuted at No. 6 on Billboard’s country albums chart in October. And his “Not So Family Christmas” TV special airs December 3. Lambert is participating in that.

KHAZ Music News: Ray Price Battling Pancreatic Cancer

(AP) – Country Hall of Famer, Ray Price, says he has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and has undergone chemotherapy to treat it. He confirmed his diagnosis to the San Antonio Express-News which reports that the cancer was discovered when Price had gall bladder surgery. The doctor told him that most men will have cancer if they live to be old enough. Price says he doesn’t know why he got it. The 86-year-old-singer says he “ain’t old.” Price has canceled touring, but he’s planning to visit Nashville in November to begin recording a new album.

KHAZ Music News: Scotty McCreery Tapes Holiday TV Special

(AP) – Scotty McCreery is hosting a holiday TV special on Saturday, December 1st. “Christmas With Scotty McCreery and Friends” will air on GAC. It features McCreery performing songs from his new Christmas album. The “friends” joining him on the special include Gloriana, performing “O Holy Night” and “Silent Night.” Jana Kramer will sing “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” and “Winter Wonderland.” And newcomer Brett Eldredge will perform “Mary, Did You Know” and “Jingle Bell Rock.”

KHAZ Music News: Sammy Kershaw Involved In Bus Accident

(AP) – Sammy Kershaw is thankful to be alive after his tour bus was struck by another vehicle. It happened in Nocona, Texas. The impact caused major damage to the bus, and the car was totaled. The driver of the car was hospitalized with injuries. Kershaw and the nine members of his band and crew were shaken and sore but not seriously hurt. In a statement, Kershaw says, “Buses and cars can be replaced but people can’t.” No one died, but Kershaw says it could’ve gone the other way. He believes they had “a guardian angel.” Kershaw has not canceled any concerts.

KHAZ Music News: Reba’s New Show Premieres At Number One In Time Slot

AP) – Reba McEntire is topping the charts again — this time with her new TV show. Over nine million people watched the premiere of “Malibu Country” on ABC Friday. It was the No. 1 show in its time slot. The show gave ABC its highest numbers in the 8:30 p.m. half hour in almost five years.

KHAZ Music News: Willie Nelson Is An ‘Obama Guy’

(AP) – Kid Rock, Rodney Atkins and The Oak Ridge Boys may be actively campaigning for Mitt Romney, but Willie Nelson wants to re-elect President Barack Obama. During an interview with CNN, his wife said Nelson “has a wife — and four daughters — he’s an Obama guy.” Nelson agreed that for women “Obama is the guy.” He said women’s health care is a big issue and “Obama is on the right side of history.”

KHAZ Music News: Eric Church: I’m An Independent Voter

(AP) – Eric Church believes the presidential election will come down to independent voters. He tells the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that’s who he is. Church thinks it’s fine for artists to endorse candidates, but you won’t hear his opinion anytime soon. He says he’s “not a political person,” adding it’s just not something he’s terribly interested in.

KHAZ Music News: ABC Sweeps With Its Broadcast Of The CMA Awards

(AP) – Not everyone who wanted to watch the CMA Awards last week was able to, due to the extensive power outages caused by Superstorm Sandy. But ABC says it still scored a sweep last Thursday night with its broadcast. The network says the CMAs marked its most-watched non-sports Thursday in over three years.

KHAZ Music News: Jason Aldean Sells Out Another Stadium Show

(AP) – Jason Aldean’s having a good time lately. He and his buddies Luke Bryan and Eric Church opened the CMA Awards last week with a surprise performance of his new single “The Only Way I Know.” The next morning he woke to discover that he’d sold out more stadium shows. According to Aldean, “The list of guys in country music who sell out stadiums is pretty short, it’s guys like Chesney and Garth.” Aldean says he’s “not supposed to be on that list.” But he is now. He sold out his first Fenway Park show in a record seven minutes and a second Fenway show along with one at the University of Georgia’s Sanford Stadium in less than hour. Aldean calls it “a big testament to the hard work” his band and crew put in every night and to the loyalty of country music fans.
