Jason Aldean (James Minchin III/Broken Bow Records)NASHVILLE (AP) – Jason Aldean says he pulled his current album off Spotify because he wants everyone who is involved in making his music to be paid fairly. He says he’s an artist whose career is built on songwriters, publishers, producers and engineers. He says he pulled his “Old Boots, New Dirt” album from the music streaming service, in his words, “To do what is right for the people who have given me a great life.” Aldean only pulled his current album from Spotify. Taylor Swift pulled her entire catalog.

christmas in rockefeller centerNEW YORK (AP) – Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett will team up again, this time to sing at the lighting of the Christmas tree in New York’s Rockefeller Center. Sara Bareilles will team up with Seth MacFarlane for a number as well. Cyndi Lauper, Idina Menzel, Pentatonix, LeAnn Rimes and Trisha Yearwood will also perform. “Christmas in Rockefeller Center” airs live December 3 on NBC.

KHAZ Country Music News: Jason Aldean Pulls Songs from Spotify

khaz jason aldean 20141016NASHVILLE (AP) – Jason Aldean has taken his latest album off the digital music streaming service Spotify. His “Old Boots, New Dirt” album had been available on Spotify since it came out October 7. A Spotify spokesman confirms it’s no longer available on the service. Aldean’s previous albums are still on Spotify. His label has no comment. “Old Boots, New Dirt” had the biggest first week for a country album on Spotify, with more than three million streams. Aldean had even recorded a track-by-track commentary for Spotify listeners. Many musicians have complained that music-streaming services do not pay them fairly for use of their music.

KHAZ Country Music News: Randy Travis Continues Recovery

khaz randy travis fiancee 20141111TIOGA, Tex. (AP) – Randy Travis is making slow progress, according to his fiancee’. Mary Davis tells WFAA-TV Travis is starting to write and has signed guitars with his left hand. She notes, “Randy Travis has a new autograph!” Travis suffered congestive heart failure last year and then had a stroke. Davis says Travis walked 300 yards without a walking stick this week. She says Travis struggles with language but when it comes to music, he plays all the chords and knows all the words.

khaz garth brooks 20140905 2MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – Garth Brooks brought some light into the life of a fan with breast cancer. KARE-TV reports Teresa Shaw and her daughter traveled from Iowa to see Brooks’ show in Minneapolis Friday. She held up a sign that said, “Chemo this morning. Garth tonight. Enjoy the dance.” Brooks spotted the sign while performing the song “The Dance.” He sang to her, handed her his guitar and kissed her forehead. He then held the sing up and said he and everyone in the audience were sending strength so she could beat cancer.

KHAZ Country Music News: Willie Nelson to Host TV Show

khaz willie nelson 20130925UNDATED (AP) – Willie Nelson will be the host of a new TV show. He will host “Inside Arlyn Studios,” set in a recording studio in Austin, Texas. He will interview and sometimes sit in on performances by different musicians. Merle Haggard and Gary Clark Junior are the first guests. The show is filming pilot episodes but no network has picked up the series yet.

khaz cma awards 20140904NASHVILLE (AP) – The Grammys snubbed Luke Bryan, but the Country Music Association sure didn’t. Bryan was named entertainer of the year at the CMA Awards last night in Nashville. He’s never won a CMA before. He thanked everyone he could think of before getting tongue-tied and blurted out, “We’re gonna have a good time tonight!” Miranda Lambert was the big winner of the night with four wins, including album of the year for “Platinum” and female vocalist of the year. Blake Shelton won male vocalist of the year, while Little Big Town won the vocal group award. Florida Georgia Line won for vocal duo, and Brett Eldredge won the new artist award.

KHAZ Country Music News: Blake Shelton in Favorite Male Artist Category of People’s Choice Awards

Beyoncé, Iggy Azalea, Katy Perry, Sia and Taylor Swift are nominated for favorite female artist. Blake Shelton, Ed Sheeran, John Legend, Pharrell Williams and Sam Smith will face off for favorite male artist. Nominees in other music categories include Charli XCX, Hunter Hayes, 5 Seconds Of Summer, Florida Georgia Line, Jennifer Lopez and Jay Z. The People’s Choice Awards will be January 7 in Los Angeles and shown on CBS.
