Capitol’s Luke Bryan is country’s sole Artist of the Year nominee for the American Music Awards. He’s also the only country artist with two nominations, adding a nod for Favorite Male Artist – Country, along with Jason Aldean and Blake Shelton. Miranda Lambert, Kacey Musgraves and Carrie Underwood are up for Favorite Female – Country, and Eli Young Band,Florida Georgia Line and Lady Antebellum are nominated for Favorite Country Group. Garth Brooks‘ Blame It On My Roots: Five Decades of Influences, Eric Church‘s The Outsiders andBrantley Gilbert‘s Just As I Am are the country nominees for Favorite Album. Bluegrass legend Dr. Ralph Stanley has been elected a fellow in the humanities and arts category of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He’ll be formally inducted Oct. 11 at the Academy’s headquarters in Cambridge, MA. Stanley’s fellow “fellows” include actor Al Pacino, novelists John Irving and Annie Proulx, and oceanographer and discoverer of the Titanic, Robert Ballard.

WASHINGTON (AP) – Rosanne Cash will be one of the recipients of a special award from the Smithsonian in Washington. She will receive one of the American Ingenuity Awards for her contributions to music. The full list of winners will be announced next Thursday.

The publication takes an intimate look at Strait’s life, including exclusive photos from his ranch and behind-the-scenes moments, as well as a retrospective of 50 years of the ACM Awards. NASHVILLE (AP) – Jason Aldean is just laying his life out there and he’ll deal with whatever happens. Aldean says he’s not going to be scared to come out of his house for fear that he’ll do something stupid and it gets caught on camera. He says anyone who has followed his career knows he’s not an angel. Aldean became fodder for the gossip magazines when he was caught kissing former “American Idol” contestant Brittany Kerr while still married. He’s now divorced and engaged to Kerr. Aldean says he used his new album, “Old Boots, New Dirt” as a way to escape his troubles, but the album is not about his life.

NASHVILLE (AP) – The Country Music Association Awards continues to add more performers. Jason Aldean, Dierks (DURKS) Bentley, Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw will sing at the show. Previously announced performers include Luke Bryan, Lady Antebellum, Miranda Lambert, Little Big Town, Blake Shelton, The Band Perry, Keith Urban, and hosts Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley. The CMAs are on November 5.
