KHAZ Country Music News: Johnny and June’s Property Sold

khaz johnny cash home 20140424NASHVILLE (AP) – Barry Gibb has sold the former home of Johnny and June Carter Cash. The Nashville Tennessean reports Gibb and his wife, Linda, sold the property to a limited liability company for $2 million. They bought the property in $2.3 million in 2006. The Cashes lived there for more than 40 years. The Gibbs had planned to renovate the property and were almost done with the project when it caught fire and destroyed the house. The Gibbs had announced plans to build a new house and preserve the original foundations of the home.

KHAZ Country Music News: Jason Aldean Choosing Bat Girls

khaz jason aldean 20130212UNDATED (AP) – Jason Aldean will help choose the honorary bat girls as part of Major League Baseball’s breast cancer awareness program. Aldean is part of a panel who will choose an honorary bat girl for each of the 30 major league teams. The bat girls will be recognized at games on Mother’s Day or another game in May.

KHAZ Country Music News: Glen Campbell in a Care Facility

khaz glen campbell 20121203NEW YORK (AP) – Glen Campbell has been moved to a memory care facility in Nashville as he deals with Alzheimer’s disease. Campbell’s wife, Kim Woolen, tells People magazine five family members were taking care of him and they were “completely exhausted.” She says they have to watch him every second because he’ll pick up knives and not give them up. His daughter, Ashley, says Campbell will try to drink things like dish soap or olive oil. Campbell moved to the facility at the end of March and he is adjusting well. Woolen says Campbell played a couple of songs for residents there on his first day, thanked them for coming and took a nap on the couch.

KHAZ Country Music News: 2014 Country Music Hall of Fame Inductees Announced

khaz ronnie milsap 20140422This year’s Country Music Hall of Fame inductees are, in the Songwriter category, the late Hank Cochran; in the Veterans Era Artist category, Mac Wiseman; and in the Modern Era Artist Category, Ronnie Milsap. The honorees will be celebrated at the annual invitation-only Medallion Ceremony later this year.

KHAZ Country Music News: Kevin Sharp Dies

khaz kevin sharp 20140421FAIR OAKS, Calif. (AP) – Kevin Sharp has died. The country music singer had a series of hits during a career that started in the late 1990s. He was 43 and died from complications from past stomach surgeries and digestive issues. Sharp was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer when he was a high school senior. The Make-A-Wish Foundation made it possible for Sharp to meet music producer David Foster, who helped him jump-start his music career. Perhaps his biggest hit was “Nobody Knows,” a single from his 1996 debut album.

KHAZ Country Music News: “New” Music from Hank Williams to be Released

khaz hank williams 20140418NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – It’s considered “new” music – even though it has been around for close to 65 years. The recordings of country music legend Hank Williams were done for a taped show that aired on early country music stations – and sponsored by a Texas plant nursery. “The Garden Spot Programs, 1950” feature two dozen songs and jingles on tape. Most of the tapes were lost – but the copies from one station in Iowa survived. The recordings were transferred, restored and mastered for release. The project will be available starting May 20 for both download and on vinyl.

KHAZ Country Music News: Saturday is Record Store Day

khaz record store day 20140418(AP) – If you’re the type who prefers vinyl music over digital, tomorrow is your day. Acts like Devo, The Allman Brothers Band, Dolly Parton, Public Enemy, Korn and R.E.M. will have exclusive releases for Record Store Day. It’s meant to help out independent record stores with releases not sold in big outlets. David Bowie will have a “1984” picture disc, and Harry Mancini’s “The Pink Panther” will come out on pink vinyl. Vinyl will not be the only thing available. Eric Clapton, Tegan (TEE’-gan) and Sara and My Chemical Romance will issue T-shirts, Jake Bugg will release a live album on CD, and Green Day and Skrillex will have releases on cassette. KHAZ Country Music News: Willie Nelson Receives Fifth-Degree Black Belt

khaz willie nelson 20120411AUSTIN, Tex. (AP) – Willie Nelson is about to turn 81, and he’s about to get promoted in martial arts. Nelson will receive his fifth-degree black belt in the art of Gong Kwon Yu Sul, a Korean martial arts system, on April 28 in Austin, Texas. Nelson has practiced martial arts since he was a songwriter in Nashville. He often practices on his tour bus.

KHAZ Country Music News: Zac Brown Band Has Eight Members Now

khaz zac brown band 20140416NEW YORK (AP) – Zac Brown Band have added a bassist. Matt Mangano joins the band as its eighth member. That doesn’t mean John Driskell Hopkins is leaving. He’s just moving to other instruments. He plans to play guitar, baritone guitar, ukulele, and banjo as well as bass and upright bass. Zac Brown Band will kick off their Great American Road Trip Tour on May 24 in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Tickets for the ACM Party for a Cause: 50 Years of Music and Memories April 17-18, 2015 at Globe Life Park and the ACM Awards at AT&T Stadium April 19, 2015 sold out Tuesday in 18 minutes. If you’re counting, that’s 70,000 tickets, making it the biggest and fastest-selling event in ACM history. “We want to thank the fans for their continued support,” says CEO Bob Romeo. “We’re working hard to plan more events to accommodate as many fans as we can. khaz george jones 20120427NASHVILLE (AP) – George Jones’ widow will mark the one-year anniversary of his death by planting trees in his honor. Nancy Jones will plant two dogwood trees at the monument in Nashville’s Woodlawn Cemetery on April 26. Nancy Jones says the day will be bittersweet but she wants fans to be there to keep her husband’s legacy alive.

khaz kenny rogers 20130410NASHVILLE (AP) – When Kenny Rogers gets into something, he REALLY gets into it. Rogers says he used to play tennis 8 hours a day for 15 years. He says he was so good he was nationally ranked. He can’t do it any more, so he’s turned his attention to photography. He says it’s a good way to spend time when he’s on the road. Rogers says he’s come across a psychological term for what he does: “impulsive obsessive.” He says that means he gets impulsively involved with something and then he’s obsessed with it.
