KHAZ Country Music News: Eric Church May Shock the CMAs

khaz eric church 20121231NASHVILLE (AP) – Eric Church’s performance at the Country Music Association Awards might be a surprise to some fans of old-school country music. Church plans to sing the title cut from his new album “The Outsiders,” and it’s a song influenced by heavy metal. Church says people may react by crowd-surfing, maybe with mosh pits, or maybe by throwing cans at him. The CMAs are tomorrow. “The Outsiders” will come out February 11.

KHAZ Country Music News: The CMA’s are Going Back to the Future

khaz cma awards 20130821NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – You can say the Country Music Association Awards are going back to the future. One of the ways they are promoting the music and the artists who are up for awards is a combination of retro audio and current technology. To promote Blake Shelton’s work, the CMAs have mailed a virtual record player. It includes a vinyl copy of Shelton’s “Based on a True Story” album. If you scan a code with your cell phone and place the phone on the record, a digital arm appears that lets you “play” the record. You can even move the tonearm back and forth, just like on an old-school record player. (For you younger folks, that’s how your parents or grandparents used to listen to music back in the day). Other ways the CMAs are trying to draw attention to next week’s awards ceremony include a marching band and tour books sent to voters. CMAs are next Wednesday.

KHAZ Country Music News: Rhett and Thomas Akins on Singing and Writing

khaz rhett and thomas akinsNASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Rhett Akins is no slouch when it comes to singing and writing songs. But he says he marvels at – and is a little envious of – his son’s ability to write and sing. The elder Akins says he has “really had to practice hard to play guitar and write songs.” But he says for his son, it seems singing and lyrics have “just been pouring out of his mouth since he was at least 17 or 18.” Dad says he doesn’t know whether his son just he just has a gift – or picked up the skills by being around the business since he was a kid. Their latest album is due out today.
