Kan. sheriff investigates report of attempted abduction UPDATE

11: a.m.  UPDATE  from Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office

On Thursday March 6th, 2014 the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office was notified of the following incident;  An 11 year old girl reported that she was walking in the city of St.Mary’s at approximately 3:30 p.m. March 6th.  She had been walking in an alley when she saw a white van turn down the same alley she was walking in, driving towards her.   She cut through a yard because the van was coming towards her.  The girl who was now walking on Palmer Street watched the van emerge from the alley and come back on Palmer Street driving towards her again.  She said the van stopped near her and the driver yelled “hey come here”.

She said she ran from the van and was able run to her home.  The girl described the van as a white Chevrolet van with three windows on each side.  She believed the rear windows were tinted dark.  She said the van had dents and scratches on the passenger side door.  She believed the van had a blue colored license plate that said Nebraska.  The driver was described as a male in his late twenties with a short brown goatee.  He was wearing black sunglasses and a black baseball cap with no logo on it.

The Sheriff’s Office would like an opportunity speak with the individual who was driving the van involved in this incident. This incident occurred in the vicinity of Palmer and Lasley Streets, and 3 and 4th street.  If you have information about the van, driver, or if you believe you may have witnessed this please contact the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office at 785-457-3353 or the St.Mary’s Police Department at 785-437-2311.

 

7:20 a.m.   ST MARYS — The Pottawatomie Sheriff’s Department is investigating a report of an attempted abduction early Thursday morning.

Preliminary reports are that a man driving a white van with out-of-state plates attempted to lure a girl into his vehicle.

Additional details have not been made available.

Kan. Amber Alert canceled; Missing Texas teen found UPDATE

6:45 p.m. LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) — Authorities have found a missing East Texas teenager who had been the subject of a multistate Amber Alert.

Lubbock police say 15-year-old Nomei “Mimi” Valazquez has been found unharmed. Police Sgt. Jason Lewis said the Nacogdoches, Texas, girl was found at a Lubbock residence on Wednesday. A 28-year-old construction worker has been taken into custody. There was no word on if he had been charged Wednesday.

Velazquez has been missing from Nacogdoches since Monday.

Investigators had said a ping of the girl’s cellphone indicated she and the man were in Kansas, then later in Lubbock.

 

 

 

LENEXA (AP) — Kansas authorities have canceled an Amber Alert for a missing Texas teenager.

Authorities canceled the alert for 15-year-old Nomei “Mimi” Velazquez on Wednesday morning because she is no longer believed to be in Kansas. They gave no other details.

Velazquez has been missing from Nacogdoches, Texas, since Monday.

The teenager is 4-feet-11-inches, 120 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a white shirt, blue jeans, black tennis shoes, carrying a brown purse and wearing glasses.

Authorities say she might be with Juan Fabian Arenas Delacruz, who is 5-foot-11 and 170 pounds. They are possibly in a silver 2004 Volkswagen Passat with Texas plate DF7T507.

Investigators say a cellphone ping indicated they may have been on Interstate 35 in Lenexa Tuesday evening.

Police searching for restaurant owner missing since Sunday

HUTCHINSON — Area law enforcement have been working trying to find man who has been missing since Sunday.

Adam Sabari, 54, is missing from Wichita and was last seen approximately 10 a.m. Sunday. He owns Timeout Sports Bar and Grill, McPherson.

His ATM card was used in Wichita, even though he had told someone he was going to Hutchinson.

McPherson Police reportedly were sent to the restaurant for a welfare check, but Sabari was not there.

He was last known to be driving a 2008 White Saturn Aura with Kansas tag 785 AIZ or 786 AIZ.

He stand 5 feet, 5 inches tall, weighs 140 pounds and has dark brown hair and brown eyes.
