Leona (Landwehr) Schulte

VICTORIA — Leona (Landwehr) Schulte, 81, died Sunday March 23, 2014, at Hays Medical Center.

She was born September 6, 1932, in Ransom, Kansas, to Frank and Elizabeth (Friess) Landwehr. She married Raymond Schulte on December 27, 1960, at Ransom, Kansas. He died July 18, 20ll.

She was a music teacher and taught in Logan, Palco, Russell County schools and Victoria. She retired from teaching in 1994 from Victoria. She also taught private piano for over 60 years.

She was a 1950 graduate of Ransom High School and graduated from Fort Hays State College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education and a Master’s Degree in Music. She has been a church organist at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Walker and St. Fidelis Catholic Church in Victoria since 1976. She was a church organist at Messiah Lutheran Church in Hays from 1983 until 2010.

She was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church and St. Ann’s Christian Mothers, both in Walker, Kansas, Sigma Alpha Iota (Women’s Professional Music Fraternity), American Guild of Organists and National Education Association.

Survivors include three sons, Douglas Schulte and wife, Stacy, Hays, KS; Alan Schulte, Victoria, KS; John Schulte, Victoria, KS; one daughter, Marthann Schulte and husband, Todd Zwolensky, Portsmouth, VA; six grandchildren, Brent Schulte, Breanna Schulte-Weber and husband Cory, Lauren Schulte, Joshua Schulte, Elizabeth Zwolensky, Andrew Zwolensky; and two great grandchildren, Rylan Schulte and Paxton Weber; two sisters, Berniece Pfannenstiel, Ransom, KS; Arlene Langer, Ness City, KS; three sisters-in-law, Sue Landwehr, Boring, OR; Josephine Schulte, Hays, KS; Edna Schulte, Hays, KS.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and five brothers, Leander, Urban, Mark, Gilbert, and Laverne Landwehr.

Services are 10:00 A.M. Thursday, March 27, 2014, at St. Fidelis  Catholic Church, Victoria, Kansas. Burial in St. Ann’s Cemetery, Walker, Kansas. A St. Ann’s Christian Mothers rosary is at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday followed by a vigil service at 7:30 P.M. Wednesday both at St. Fidelis Catholic Church Victoria, Kansas.

Visitation is from 6:00 to 9:00 P.M. Wednesday at St. Fidelis and from 8:30 to 9:45 A.M. Thursday, at Cline’s Mortuary, 412 Main, Victoria, Kansas 67671.

Todd Lenker

Phillipsburg resident Todd Lenker passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at his home in Phillipsburg at the age of 55.

He was born in Spaulding, Neb., on August 19, 1958, the son of Alvin & Ruth (McCain) Lenker.  Todd was the Environmental Safety Supervisor at the Phillipsburg refinery.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce, of the home; stepsons, Kane Christy of Phillipsburg and Keath Christy of Glade; 2 grandchildren; brothers, Bruce and Craig Lenker, both of Phillipsburg, Brad Lenker of Ottawa, KS and Mark Lenker of Grand Prairie, TX; sister, Deb Perkins of Broken Arrow, OK; and mother-in-law, Dorothy Detwiler of Kensington, KS.

Funeral services will be Friday, March 7, at 10:30 a.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Joel Hiesterman officiating.  Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-9 p.m. and Thursday from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. at the chapel, with the family receiving friends Thursday evening from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m.

Frederick Lagergren

Phillipsburg resident Frederick Lagergren passed away at his home on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014, at the age of 95.

He was born Sept. 28, 1918 in Randall, KS, the son of William & Mary (Wellman) Lagergren.  He worked for the USDA Soil Conservation Service for 35 years.

His wives, Beulah and Josephine, and a granddaughter, Amanda Munoz, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his son, Ralph, of Wichita; daughters, Joan Bowman of Phillipsburg and Nancy Greuter of Wharton, NJ; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and a sister, Rosella Damon of Mankato.

Funeral services will be held Wed., Feb. 19, at 10:30 a.m. in the Presbyterian Church, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Chris Davis officiating.  A graveside service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Mankato, KS, with military honors by the U.S. Coast Guard.

Visitation will be today from 5 – 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with the family receiving friends Tues. evening from 7-8 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Westview Homes “bench fund,” the ALS Association, or Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Goldie Barker

Former Prairie View resident Goldie Barker, Hays, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014, at Via Christi Village, Hays, at the age of 98.

She was born Feb. 10, 1915, in Prairie View to William Van Diest and Dora (Harbers) Van Diest.  Her husband, Clarence Barker, preceded her in death.

She is survived by her sons, Bill of Hays, Steve of Kearney, Neb., and Dave of Ottawa; her sister, Wilma Holmes, of Columbia, Mo.; three grandchildren, one great-grandchild, five step-grandchildren and 12 step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 8, at 10:30 a.m. in the Prairie View Reformed Church, Prairie View. Burial will follow in the Prairie View Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel in Phillipsburg.

Eugene Sansom

LOGAN — Edmond resident Eugene Sansom died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014, at Logan Manor in Logan at the age of 84. He was a farmer.

Eugene was born May 5, 1929, in Edmond, the son of Clyde and Carrie (Patterson) Sansom.

He was united in marriage to Miriam J. Paulsen on July 15, 1951, in Phillipsburg. She survives.
Other survivors include a son, Rodney of Densmore; three daughters, Linda Becker of Lenora, Pat Smith of Logan and Pam Glick of Superior, Colo.; a sister, Lois Archer of Logan; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Alta Griffin; and a granddaughter, Carrie Sansom.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the former Edmond United Methodist Church in Edmond with Pastor Lynn Linde officiating. Burial will follow in the Edmond Cemetery, Edmond.

Mr. Sansom will lie in state from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Logan Funeral Home in Logan.

Betty Haskett

Phillipsburg resident Betty Haskett, age 76, died Monday, Dec. 30, 2013, at Deseret Nursing Home, Kensington.

Betty was born July 17, 1937, in Phillips County, the daughter of Erl Eli and Theresa Pauline (Schulke) Haskett.  She worked as a bank teller for many years.

Survivors include two sisters, Noma Keesee and Bernice Werner, both of Phillipsburg, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 4, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, 1115 Second St., Phillipsburg, with Tony Keesee officiating.  Burial will follow in the Agra Cemetery, Agra.

Miss Haskett will lie in state from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday and until service time Saturday at the funeral chapel.
