Historic hoops season available on DVD from Eagle Community TV

A historic run calls for some immortality.

Eagle Community Television is offering a DVD set featuring key moments in Hays High School’s record-setting, 23-win season — a year that ended with a fourth place finish in the state tournament.

Eagle has produced three DVD sets for Indian fans to remember the 2013-14 season. The first is a $80 three-disc set that includes 5A State Tournament games, and a second, a $150 six-disc set, includes the state tourney games and games from the Dodge City Tournament of Champions.

The third set chronicles the entire 2013-14 season, minus the state tournament games, for $500.

Youth track club will have signup meeting Sunday

Hays Striders Track Club will have an information and signup meeting at 4 p.m. Sunday at Hays Recreation Commission, 1105 Canterbury, according to a release this week.

The club is a nonprofit youth track and field team associated with the Missouri Valley USATF and AAU organizations. The Striders are sponsored and backed by interested parents who devote time and energy to help young people participate in track and field. The club also can receive donations from area civic and business organizations.

Participants compete in developmental and qualifying track meets throughout the state of Kansas. The club’s participation in the qualifying meets could qualify athletes for the Junior Olympic Games.

TMP Fieldhouse fire-code updates nearly complete

tmp doors 4 — Work is nearing completion on the remodel of TMP’s Al Billinger Fieldhouse to satisfy fire code requirements.

Construction at Thomas More Prep-Marian’s Al Billinger Fieldhouse has continued to progress steadily since early November, when the school was notified by the state fire marshal of fire code deficiencies.

“We’ve made countless adjustments and schedule changes,” Development Director Jeff Brull told Hays Post on Monday. “Our students, athletes, faculty, staff, fans and parents have been very accommodating. They’ve certainly made the best of a bad situation.”

Activities such as sporting events have been moved off campus to several other Hays facilities.

As of Monday, the east exit of the building from the gym floor was nearly complete, and work on the exit from the top bleacher area continues.

Workers broke through the exterior brick wall Friday afternoon to create the opening for new fireproof doors. Electrical work began Monday, and Brull said the door and stair installation are next.

“Once that’s complete, we hope to get the OK from the office of the state fire marshal,” he said. “We’ve got a few events we’d still like to see hosted in the gym before the (school)year is out, and we’re doing everything we can to keep it on schedule.”
