The Kansas City Royals selected local high school legend Bubba Starling with its fifth overall pick in the 2011 Major League Baseball Draft.
Starling went to high school at Gardner-Edgerton, and has also signed a letter of intent to play quarterback at Nebraska. Starling was a three-sport star in high school, playing football, basketball and baseball. He was recruited by every major college football program, but picked Nebraska after rushing for 2,471 yards and 31 touchdowns this past fall. He would also have the chance to play baseball for the Huskers.
The Royals have until August 15 to sign Starling to a contract.
