The Hays Larks use two early home runs to establish a lead and hold off the Haysville Heat, 7-4 at Larks Park on Sunday night, giving the Larks a three-game sweep of the defending Jayhawk League champions.
The Larks opened the scoring in the first with Cam Brown’s fourth homer of the season, a two-run shot to left. After Haysville tied the game in the top of the second, Jon Ryan put the Larks on top for good with a solo homer to right. Haysville would cut the lead to one in the fourth, but the Larks score three in the fifth thanks to an RBI double from Ethan Leiter and an RBI single from Sloan Soulia.
Andy Lewton was sharp in his second start of the season, picking up the win. Lewton throws five innings, giving up three runs on seven hits and striking out seven. Michael Burchett works a scoreless ninth for his first save.
The win moves the Larks to 6-2 on the season and 3-1 in the Jayhawk League, while Haysville drops to 4-5-1 and 2-4 in the league. The Larks are off Monday before playing a two-game set in Liberal starting on Tuesday.
