In somewhat of a surprise, Kansas forward Markieff Morris was taken before twin brother Marcus in the first round of Thursday night’s NBA draft. The Phoenix Suns picked the 6’9” Markieff with the 13th pick about five minutes before Marcus went to the Houston Rockets with the 14th pick. The five minutes also also about what separated the two at birth.
The Memphis Grizzlies used their only pick of the draft on KU guard Josh Selby who went 49th.
Duke’s Kyrie Irving was the No. 1 overall selection by Cleveland despite playing in just eleven games in college. Sacramento took BYU guard Jimmer Fredette at No. 10. Three of the first six players taken were from Europe.
