The Kansas City Royals first trip to San Diego in seven years results in a three-game sweep. The Padres scored four unearned runs with two outs in the third inning and finished off the Royals 4-1 yesterday afternoon in the final game of their three-game interleague set.
The Royals were unable to catch a pup-up in the sun near the mound which led to the big inning and that was all Tim Stauffer needed, holding the Royals to just one run on four hits over seven innings. The Royals threatened in the ninth with consecutive singles from Mike Moustakas and Brayan Pena but the next three batters were retired in fly balls to end the game.
Bruce Chen takes the loss, allowing four unearned runs on eight hits in six innings, striking out six and walking one. Eric Hosmer drove in the Royals only run with a single in the third. The Royals have now lost nine of their last 11. They are off today before opening a weekend series at Colorado tomorrow.
