Larks Win Wild Game In Dodge City

Larks pick up first win of the season in Dodge City with 17-16 win Wednesday night.

Aaron Cornell and Cam Brown both had four hits and Sloan Soulia drove in six runs as the Hays Larks pick up their first win in Dodge City this season with a wild 17-16 victory Wednesday night.

Cornell hit a solo homer in the first then another for the game-winner in the eighth to break a 16-all tie. Soulia’s 3-run blast capped a four-run first but the A’s came back with three in the secondand six in the third. They took the lead with five in the fifth then added two more in the sixth. Hays tied the game with four in the seventh capped by MacKezie Handel’s 2-run single. Handel and Jon Ryan both drove in three.

Starter Kirk Jewasko was roughed up for a second straight start, allowing eight runs, five earned, on seven hits over 2 1/3 innings. Bradley’s Tony Doerr picks up the win with three scoreless innings of relief. Eastern Oklahoma State’s Nick Goza works a scoreless ninth for his first save of the summer.

The win improves the Larks to 15-7 and 9-6 in the Jayhawk League. They are off Thursday before opening a three-game series in Derby Friday.
