Bad First Inning Dooms Larks In Derby

The Larks commit three errors in an 8-run first inning and lose 12-7 at Derby Saturday night.

The Derby Twins scored eight runs in the first inning and hold off the Hays Larks the rest of the way in a 12-7 victory Saturday night in Derby. Eleven of the Twins first 12 batters all reached base, three by error and two by walk resulting in six unearned runs.

Larks starter Hunter Hertdt (Chandler-Gilbert CC) allowed four runs on seven hits, retiring only two batters and takes the loss. 

The Larks scored two in the fifth on RBI singles from Elvin Rodriguez (Chandler-Gilbert CC) and Sean Wilson (Vanguard). They added five in the seventh highlighted by a Jon Ryan (Illinois-Chicago) 3-run homer.

The loss drops the Larks to 15-9 and 9-8 in the Jayhawk League. They will try to salvage the final game of the series Sunday night at 7pm.
