Norton Police Officer Charged With Rape

NORTON, KS (AP) – A suspended Norton police officer accused of raping two women this spring at his home will be arraigned Monday in Norton County District Court.

Twenty-eight-year-old Ryan Zweygardt was bound over for trial last week on two counts of rape and one count each of aggravated battery and aggravated criminal sodomy. District Magistrate Judge Barbara Stites dismissed a second count of aggravated battery.

The alleged victims knew Zweygardt and had been to his residence before. One of the victims sought medical treatment at Norton County Hospital just hours after the alleged attacked, and the other woman reported what happened several days afterward.

KBI special agent Kevin Campbell confirmed under questioning that Zweygardt believes the sex was consensual and the women say it wasn’t
