Royals Lose To Detroit

Jeff Francis pitched will in the Royals 2-1 loss to Detroit Sunday.

The Detroit Tigers head into the All-Star break in first place in the American League Central following a 2-1 win over the Royals on a hot day in Kansas City.

Justin Verlander became the first Tigers pitcher to earn 12 wins before the All-Star break in 24 years going 7 2/3 strong innings with nine strikeouts.

The Royals threatened in the ninth after a leadoff double by Eric Hosmer but he was thrown out trying to steal third for the second out of the inning.

Jeff Francis takes the loss, allowing just the two runs on four hits and striking out six while walking just one over six innings.

The Royals struggled to get the big hit, going 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position.
