The Hays Larks move into a first-place tie with Haysville atop the Jayhawk League after a 4-3 win over the Heat Thursday night in Haysville.
Cody Gougler (Southeastern Louisiana) broke the 3-3 tie, driving in Aaron Cornell (Eastern Oklahoma State JC) with a double in the seventh. The Larks tie the game in the third on a Cornell double and Gougler single. They tied it again in the fifth on Cornell’s groundout to third. Cornell has now hit safely in 24 straight.
Justin Ziegler (Bradley) moved to 3-0, allowing three runs on seven hits over seven innings. Malcolm Purdy (Chandler-Gilbert CC) and Michael Burchett (Sam Houston State) both pitch a scoreless inning of relief. It’s Burchett’s sixth straight save and eighth overall.
The Larks have won six of their last eight and are now 21-12 overall and 15-10 in the Jayhawk League. They are off Friday before returning home to host the Greeley (Colo.) Grays in a pair of non-league games Saturday and Sunday. Sunday’s game will be broadcast on KAYS and on-line at www.kaysradio.com.
