Royals Blow Early Lead, Lose In Minnesota

Bruce Chen gave up 4 runs in the fifth inning and takes the loss in the Royals 8-4 setback at Minnesota Thursdsay night.

The Minnesota Twins score four runs with two-outs in the fifth inning then added four more in the seventh as they rally from an early 3-0 deficit to beat the Kansas City Royals 8-4 Thursday night in Minneapolis.

The Royals scored two in the first on a wild pitch and throwing error. Brian Pena drove in a run in the fourth to make it 3-0.

Bruce Chen gave up a two-run homer to Trevor Plouffe to cap the Twins four-run fifth. Chen (5-3) goes five innings, allowing four runs on nine hits and takes the loss . Reliever Blake Wood gave up four runs in the seventh on one hit, walking three and hitting a batter.

Francisco Liriano gave up all three of the Royals runs, one of which was earned, on seven hits with four strikeouts and picks up the win.

Melky Cabrera had two hits and RBI and threw a runner out at the plate for the Royals.
