The Ellis County Fair got off to a great start with races at RPM Speedway and the 4th Annual URSS Wheatshocker Nationals.
After a capacity crowd Saturday, the grandstands were full again Sunday night for the IMCA Stocks, Modifieds, URSS 305 Sprints, and yes, the school buses.
In the stocks, Josh Hudson led the most laps, but was overtaken by RPM Speedway point leader, Jason Schoenberger with six laps left to grab another feature win at RPM Speedway this year.
In the mods, Nic Baalman started on the pole but lost the front spot immediately before regaining the lead eights laps in and hammered it home the rest of the way to grab the checkers.
After Saturday night set up ten URSS 305 drivers as automatic qualifiers for Sunday’s ‘A’ feature, the winged speed demons ran through two ‘B’ features to set up the night’s main event. Going green to checkered up front was the B3 of Kasey Beckham out of Andover
The buses were also back for another night under the lights and this time, they all stayed upright, but, not all stayed out of trouble. After laying his bus over twice Saturday, Dustin Day ran into trouble again Sunday; actually he ran into the wall. After the track was clear, racing got back underway and Daren Unrein grabbed the black and white.
The next races at RPM Speedway are Friday, August 5th.
