The Hays Larks run at the NBC World Series came to an end Sunday night, losing 7-6 to the Clarinda (IA) A’s.
The A’s scored three in the third and three in the fourth to build a 7-4 lead. Hays rallied with a run in the fifth and another in the seventh but could get no closer.
It was a game of close calls for the Larks who nearly got out of the fourth without giving up a run but just missed turning an inning-ending double play.
Matt Schmit gave up all three runs in the fourth and takes the loss. Sloan Soulia had a double and a triple and drove in three.
The Larks go 2-2 in the tournament and finish their season 30-18.
