A strong upper level disturbance over the intermountain west on Thursday, will slide east into the central/southern Rockies today.
This will allow a Pacific Cold front to remain nearly stalled across western Kansas through the first half of the weekend.
Initially this system will bring another day of windy conditions to central and western KS with sustained wind speeds of 20 to 30 mph anticipated through this afternoon. However, a chance for thunderstorms…with some severe…will exist starting late this afternoon and lasting into tonight in response to the upper disturbance approaching Kansas.
This will then set the stage for a large band of showers and thunderstorms to move over most of central and western Kansas Saturday into the first half of Sunday.
Today: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 84. Windy, with a south southwest wind 15 to 18 mph increasing to between 25 and 28 mph.
Tonight: Showers and thunderstorms. Low around 63. Breezy, with a south wind between 17 and 24 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.
