
Senior women’s golfer Samantha Nielsen is leading the field after one round at the Park University Invitational in Parkville, Mo. Nielsen fired her lowest round of the year, a 74, on the par-70 layout of The Deuce at the National Golf Course. She was one of just four golfers to shoot below 80 on the first day, helping the Tigers to sit second out of nine teams competing in the tournament.
Fort Hays State shot 326 as a team in the first round, which is just three strokes back of tournament leader Grand View University. Nielsen has just a one shot lead as an individual as Amalia Meiji of Grand View and Ana Laura Gomez of Bellevue University are just one stroke back of the lead. Natalie Bird of Missouri Western is four strokes off the pace after a 78.
Jordan Nixon also sits in the top 10 after the first day, carding an 82 on Monday. She is currently tied for seventh. Kiley Johansen and Samantha Hobson are each tied for 11th after rounds of 85. Carmen Thompson also competed for FHSU, shooting a 91.
