
The Fort Hays State men’s golf team and Tom O’Keeffe are leading after the first round of the Park University Invite in Parkville, Mo. The tournament is being held at The Deuce at the National Golf Course, a par-70 layout. FHSU shot 289 as a team and O’Keeffe shot a 2-under par 68 to lead the way.
O’Keeffe has a two-stroke lead as an individual. He was the only golfer to shoot under par on the first day of competition. Aaron Ahrendsen of Grand View University is in second place after an even-par 70. Grand View is just five strokes back of Fort Hays State in the team standings. There are nine teams competing in the tournament.
Trey Herman shot a one-over round of 71 to sit alone in third. Kevin Quinley is tied for eighth after a 73. Markus Hilger rounded out the team scorers for the day with a 77 and is tied for 16th. Austin Maxwell is also competing for FHSU and shot 80.
Fort Hays State has two individuals playing in the event that will not figure into the team scoring. Jacob Hoover shot 78 in his first action of the year and Adam Gorjiyan shot 87 in his first action of the year.
