Started in 2007, the Heartland Community Foundation now has over $800,000 and 19 established funds. Representatives gave a presentation to the city commission last week and discussed ways to provide funding for city-supported entities. Commissioner Henry Schwaller says this could be a way to expand the limited dollars available for outside agencies.
Funds for a specific organization or purpose can be established for $10,000. That money is invested and after a year, the returns are made available. Small donations can be made to grow the existing accounts.
