Winter Weather Advisory Tonight

An upper level low pressure system over Colorado this morning will move east into western Kansas this evening.

Rain along with an isolated thunderstorm is expected to develop over south central and southwest Kansas through this morning and early afternoon. As the upper low moves east today, the rain will be changing over to snow out along the Colorado border late this morning with the changeover to snow spreading east across western Kansas this afternoon and evening.

Snowfall amounts of six to eight inches will be possible from around Scott city and Dighton to Wakeeney where a Winter Storm Warning is in effect this afternoon through Saturday morning. Farther south, snowfall amounts of one to four inches will be possible in the area from Syracuse…Elkhart and Liberal to Garden City…Dodge City…Lacrosse and Hays.

A Winter Weather Advisory is effect for this area this afternoon through Saturday morning.

Today: Rain. High near 39. Breezy, with a north northeast wind 10 to 13 mph increasing to between 21 and 24 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Tonight: Rain before 7pm, then snow. Areas of blowing snow between 7pm and 10pm, then areas of blowing snow after 11pm. Low around 30. Windy, with a north wind between 24 and 26 mph, with gusts as high as 36 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

Saturday: Snow likely and areas of blowing snow before 4pm, then a slight chance of snow between 4pm and 5pm. Cloudy, with a high near 33. Windy, with a north northwest wind between 24 and 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

Saturday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 21. Blustery, with a north northwest wind 21 to 24 mph decreasing to between 10 and 13 mph.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 37. North northwest wind between 5 and 10 mph.
