The importance of private donations was highlighted during an event at Fort Hays State University Thursday. Former faculty member and long-time donor Ed Stehno told the students in attendance to think about the purpose behind Philanthropy Awareness Day.

The event held in the Quad was intended to explain to the students that one third of the university’s operating budget is funded through tuition, one third by the state and one third through private gifts.
