Hays High School Principal Michael Hester has announced his intention to retire after the next school year. Hester will have served as principal for 13 years.

In a statement he says that he hopes issuing the notice a year in advance will give the district and his family time for long-range planning, and he says he’s committed to making the transition smooth and efficient.

Hester’s retirement from USD 489 will be official June 28, 2013.
