Ellis County does not tax severed minerals, and the county commissioners are asking why. Administrator Greg Sund looked into the issue and says under state law taxing severed minerals could create a lot of work as staff would have to research past years.

The commission wants more information on the cost and benefit to taxing severed minerals and how the process would work before they make any decisions.
