This Saturday, May 5th, the Fort Hays State University student organization Up ‘til Dawn will host a check presentation between the FHSU Baseball Games at Larks Park. Up ‘til Dawn is a student led organization that raises funds and awareness for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. They recently were awarded Outstanding Student Organization of the Year, Advisor of the Year, and Program of the Year at FHSU.
There are many different events that have led to the overall success of Up ‘til Dawn at FHSU. Their main event, The Letter Writing Event, is held in the fall and brought in over 250 students. Each student is asked to send letters to friends and families asking for donations in support of the children at St. Jude. Last year’s Letter Writing Event raised over $26,000 in result of that one evening. This year, the organization is working towards a goal of $40,000.
Aside from the Up ‘til Dawn Letter Writing Event, FHSU Up ‘til Dawn also focuses on side events to boost their fundraising numbers. Side events this year have included an 80’s themed Zumba-thon, t-shirt sales, a Super Canning event, and many events teamed with FHSU Athletics.
One major supporter of Up ‘til Dawn, is the Leadership 310 classes at Fort Hays State University. This service learning class teams with Up ‘til Dawn to host events in the spring to raise awareness and funds. This spring’s 310 team hosted the “Kicking it to Cancer” soccer camp with the Men & Women’s soccer teams, as well as the “Strike Out Cancer” softball tournament. Both events were a huge success and the team helped Up ‘til Dawn to raise an additional $3,000.
After a busy school year filled with fundraising events, the total amount will be announced on Saturday. Did they make their goal of $40,000? The members of the FHSU Up ‘til Dawn Executive Board invite you to support Tiger Baseball at their double header games against Missouri Western beginning at 2:00pm to find out their grand total for the year. The check presentation will be between games.
