The Fort Hays State women’s soccer team allowed two goals in the first 28 minutes and couldn’t overcome the deficit, falling 2-1 to Lindenwood on the road in St. Charles, Mo. on Sunday afternoon. The Tigers dropped to 9-6-1 and 5-5-1 in the MIAA.
Lindenwood’s Courtney Bresnahan started the scoring with a goal in the 18th minute. The Lions pushed the margin to 2-0 in the 28th minute when Bailey Cody scored on a header off the corner kick from Bresnahan.
The Tigers tried to claw back into the match, scoring their only goal right behind halftime in the 44th minute. Kylie Watsonscored her third goal of the season off a pass from Joanne Glynn for a 2-1 score.
Although the Tigers outshot the Lions 5-1 in the second half, FHSU couldn’t score the equalizer. In the match, FHSU totaled 13 shots to eight by LU.
Rachael Schaadpicked up the loss in goal, dropping to 4-4 on the season. She made three saves and allowed the two goals.
The Tigers end the regular season with two home matches this weekend. FHSU faces Nebraska-Kearney on Friday at 6 p.m. at the FHSU Soccer Stadium. The Tigers take on Western State on Sunday at 11 a.m.
