Moran: Obama Talks out of Both Sides of His Mouth

U.S. Senator Jerry Moran

Jerry Moranreleased the following statement in response to President Obama’s interview with a Wichita-based television station about ending tax breaks for corporate jets:

“The President continues talking out of both sides of his mouth. His obsession with the so-called ‘corporate jet loop hole’ stands in direct contrast with his supposed desire to help the aviation industry and create jobs. Ending the accelerated depreciation schedule for general aviation aircraft will send hundreds if not thousands of hardworking Kansans straight to the unemployment lines. The President says his political gimmick isn’t about cutting jobs, but that will be the result.

“This rhetoric from the President is misguided and dangerous. According to the nonpartisan Joint Committee on Taxation, the revenues raised by the President’s proposal over the next 10 years will not even cover what the federal government borrows in one day. The five-year depreciation schedule for general aviation aircraft has been law for nearly a quarter century, and was created not for the benefit of the aircraft purchaser, but for the 1.2 million Americans who make a living building and servicing these planes. Accelerated depreciation for aircraft helps spur manufacturing sales and creates jobs. I’m disappointed the President would rather continue his endless campaign to score political points with sound bites like the ‘corporate jet loophole’ than work toward a real solution to solve our nation’s fiscal challenges.”

Update Fly Hays; Not Always

Great Lakes officials at Hays Regional Airport confirmed to Hays Post this morning that flights scheduled for Sunday will go as planned. The 8:55 a.m. flight is full.

That flight was delayed again due to circumstances in Denver, according to Great Lakes.

There are two afternoon flights on Sunday, 1:00 and 4:30 p.m.

Passengers at the airport on Saturday afternoon were not happy. They arrived and then were told the flights were cancelled.  Some passengers were reportedly told of airline mechanical problems. Tyler, who works for Great Lakes and answers their calls at Hays Regional Airport, told Hays Post  that “there were no mechanical problems on Saturday. We believed the runways would be cleared in time for the afternoon flights. They were not, so we had to cancel.”

City of Hays Public Work crews cleared runways on Saturday. “We try to call people and let them know the flights were cancelled,” said Tyler.  “We call as many as possible. Obviously the Saturday morning flight, it was not possible.”

Kansas Supremes: Lesbian Moms have Rights

The Kansas Supreme Court has ruled that the non-biological mother of children in a same-sex relationship can have the same parental rights as the biological mother.

Friday’s ruling involved two Johnson County women, Kelly Goudschaal and Marci Frazier, who separated after they become parents of two children. After the separation, Goudschaal moved with the children to Texas and limited Frazier’s visitations.

Frazier sought to enforce a parenting agreement each had signed. A Johnson County judge found that joint custody was “in the best interests of the children” and granted Frazier “reasonable parenting time.”

Goudschaal appealed, arguing that the parenting agreement was unenforceable.

The high court, however, said not enforcing the parenting agreement would deny the children the opportunity to have two parents..Kansas-Supreme-Court

No Rest for Hays Public Works

You will hear few complaints. The public is thankful for the work that has been done to clean streets of snow the past 3 days.

Hays Public Works Director I. D. Creech told Hays Post that city work crews were once again busy throughout the night and they are patiently waiting for the weekend sunshine to activate the brine material they are using.

VineThe brine material helps melt the ice and snow. It penetrates the pores of road surfaces and is not disturbed by vehicle traffic.

Today, according to Creech, “Crews are out pushing  and trying to break loose ice material up and the blower is headed back to the airport.”   Stay tuned to Eagle radio and  Hays Post for the latest on winter weather, cancellations and delays
