New Math for Local Schools?

Boldra 2State Representative Sue Boldra of Hays serves on the House Education committee. Among the items they are considering, a bill that would force the state education department to write new math and English standards.

The standards would replace the Common Core math and English standards adopted in 2010. The bill would specifically prohibit the state and school districts from using the Common Core standards or spending any money on them.

Deputy education commissioner Brad Neuenswander has told the education board  that writing new standards and tests to go with them would take two years and cost millions of dollars.

Boldra will attend Saturday’s “Eggs and Issues Legislative Forum” presented by the Hays Area Chamber of Commerce, 8:30a.m. in the Fort Hays State University Robbins Center.  Also on Saturday, Boldra along with 40th District Senator Ralph Ostmeyer, Grinnell; and 110th District Representative Travis Couture-Lovelady,  Palco will also host town hall meetings at 11 a.m. in Victoria at the Former St. John’s Rest Home on 7th street and at 2 p.m. in Ellis in the city council chamber room.

The alarm was triggered due to food burning in a microwave.  Lindsey, who answered the phone at the front desk of the residence hall told Hays Post that she was not certain what floor had the smoking microwave. “We are just supposed to call 911 when a fire alarm sounds,” she said.  “The fire department usually re-sets the fire alarm.”  Hays Post was also told to check with the University’s Residential Life Office to learn how frequently fire alarms bring the fire department to campus.mcmindes

KHAZ Country Music News: Eric Church’s Wife Loves Him “Like Jesus Does”

khaz eric church 20121214Eric Church is grateful this Valentine’s Day that his wife Katherine really lives out the lyrics to his current single “Like Jesus Does.”  That means she shows a lot of grace and forgiveness when Eric falls far short of perfection.

He says, “True love to me is when you love a person in spite of all their fallibilities, and for me, I have a lot of ‘em.  I’m definitely at times hard to love.”

Eric adds, “That’s what’s great about Katherine and the way she loves me.  She loves me in spite of those things and really for those things.”

Eric admits Katherine’s favorite song on his latest album, Chief, happens to be “Like Jesus Does.”  He says with a laugh, “Wonder why that is?”
