A little more than 64 hours after escaping from the Saline County Jail, convicted murderer Antonio Brown is back in the jail facing additional charges of aggravated escape from custody.

Brown was booked into the Saline County Jail about 8:30 Thursday morning.

Brown called the U.S. Marshals Service late Antonio Brown Jail escapeeWednesday night from south Wichita to turn himself in.

At a media briefing Thursday morning, Lt. Brent Melander did not release any details on how Brown made it to Wichita from Salina, but when asked if there would be additional arrests in the case, Melander said it “Was a strong possibility of an additional arrest.”

Melander said he is conducting the internal investigation to determine what led to Brown being able to escape a holding cell Monday afternoon after being brought back to Salina from the Mitchell County Jail where he had been housed most of the time since his arrest in October of 2011 in the death of 14 month old Clayden Urbanek.

Melander says he understands the concern and anger by area residents with the escape, and the Saline County Sheriff’s Office regrets what happened, and is working to make sure it dosen’t happen again.

CPRSudden cardiac arrest strikes about 250,000 adults in the U.S. each year. Many of them don’t receive CPR in time and die before reaching the hospital. For that reason, the Hays Medical Center Foundation and DeBakey Heart Institute are again hosting a free CPR training this month.

Vice President of Operations at HaysMed, Bryce Young, says part of the goal of the training is to take away the fear of performing CPR.

The training will be February 23rd at the Center for Health Improvement. The sessions will begin at 9am and 11am. Call HaysMed at 623-5500 to register.

A Kansas House committee is preparing to hear testimony on legislation to restrict where strip clubs can operate and what activities go on inside.

The so-called Community Defense Act would establish where adult businesses can be located, ban lap dances and regulate dancing onstage in various levels of undreStrip Clubss. Supporters say the measure targets businesses that hurt communities. Opponents argue the restrictions could cost Kansas as many as 1,000 jobs.

State Board of Education passes regulations on physical restraint; Then wants to amend them

The Kansas State Board of Education has voted to adopt new proposed regulations on just how students with autism and other conditions that cause behavior disorders would be protected from the use of harsh physical restraint procedures. Despite the vote’s outcome, board members are reportedly already considering amending these new regs. That could take some time.

The new regulations on “emergency safety interventions” require all school districts to adopt formal policies that conform to specific standards. They would also require schools to provide Kansas-State-Board-of-Educationtraining in the use of those interventions and to document every instance when they are used.

K-9 Officer Retires After Decade of Exemplary Service

After 10 years of faithful service, K-9 “officer” Rex retired from the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism (KDWPT) Law Enforcement K-9 unit. Owner and program supervisor Lt. Jason Sawyers has been partners with Rex since the program’s inception in 2002.

During their initial training in Indiana with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Sawyers and Rex were educated in tracking, wildlife detection and evidence recovery.

“When I first met Rex, it was actually in Indiana,” said Sawyers. “My previous dog wasn’t performing well after the first few days, so I decided to try our back up dog, Rex.” Sawyers explained that Rex immediately exhibited the energy and drive he was looking for. “I knew right then that we were going to be a team,” added Sawyers.

One of five teams throughout the state, Jason and Rex played a pivotal role in the enforcement of game-related laws and the conservation of our resources.

“Our dogs allow us and other officers to make cases they wouldn’t have made before,” said Sawyers. “Rex has recovered items including guns, spotlights, shell casings, knives, wallets, cell phones and various game.” Sawyers added that Rex even found evidence that led to the apprehension of an individual suspected of shooting another man.

In an attempt to spread the conservation message throughout the state, the KDWPT K-9 unit is often used in public programs and demonstrations.

“Even if we aren’t around, they’re a big deterrent. The public knows we have dogs and it helps to keep them honest,” said Sawyers. “I think Rex and the entire K-9 unit have really been positive for the law enforcement division. We couldn’t do it without them.”

Start up costs for the program were funded by private donations, including the dogs. Like many of his K-9 officer counterparts, Rex, a labrador retriever, was obtained from an animal shelter.

Rex is 11 years old and will remain at home with Sawyer’s family.K9 pub photo

KHAZ Country Music News: Country Stars Share Their Thoughts and Memories on Valentine’s Day

khaz kimberly schlapman 20121217Today is the day we celebrate love with chocolates, flowers and other gifts, but Little Big Town‘s Kimberly Schlapman likes to celebrate Valentine’s Day with food. The singer, who has her own cooking show on GAC, recalls a special Valentine’s Day from her college days that involved some time in the kitchen.

“My roommate and I, we wanted to cook for our boyfriends,” Kimberly tells ABC News Radio. “We thought it would be fun to dye everything red.”

The girls went the breakfast route for their boyfriends, so the red food items included grits, scrambled eggs and strawberry muffins. The muffins turned out great while the grits took on a pink color. The eggs were another story though.

Kimberly says with a laugh, “We got it all on the plate and we all sat down and we looked at the red scrambled eggs, they were really gross.” (LITTLE BIG TOWN AUDIO IS EXCLUSIVE)

Luke Bryan is celebrating this Valentine’s Day with his wife Caroline with an overnight mini-vacation in downtown Nashville, away from their two young boys.  They’ll get a nice dinner and a hotel room for the night, which allows Caroline to enjoy her favorite Valentine’s Day treat.

Luke says, “Her biggest thing is, ‘All I want to do is be able to sleep in one morning,’ and she gets to sleep in and that’s her Valentine’s present.”

Justin Moore admits his wife Kate trumps him every year when it comes to Valentine’s Day gift-giving.

“She’s a lot better at thinking of the sentimental things,” Justin explains.  “It’s not that I don’t try.  I just, I don’t have that — the brains she does for that kind of thing.”

Even though he usually falls short, Justin adds, “I keep trying every year.”

Billy Currington will never forget his first valentine back in first or second grade back home in Georgia.  His mom sent him to school armed with a box of chocolates after telling him, “You’ve got to get your girlfriend something and you’ve got to go give it to her.”

Billy succeeded in finding his little valentine’s classroom and getting her to come to the door, but that’s where nerves got the best of him.

He says, “I remember I handed it to her, and I took off running.”

Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman‘s love affair is still going strong years after they tied the knot in 2006.  A big part of the reason they’re celebrating another Valentine’s Day is their commitment to making each other a priority.  That kind of devotion takes work after several years together.

Keith explains, “We start relationships, we’re so capable of honoring each other at the beginning of a relationship with cards and flowers and chocolates and attention and affection and priority.  And then all of that all too many times starts to drift away.”

He adds, “I mean for me, I think a lot of it has to do with just staying present.”
