The Hays Public Library will be celebrating the 50th Birthday of the beloved children’s series, “Amelia Bedelia” on Thursday at 4:00 p.m. upstairs in the Children’s Department.

The Amelia Bedelia themed party will have games, stories, and easy access to the series’ books. You will also be able to snack on a piece of Amelia’s famous pie. The birthday girl herself will be there too, ready to meet, greet and celebrate with all who attend.

The “Amelia Bedelia” series was written by Peggy Parish . Her nephew Herman Parish continued writing for the series after her death. The story’s adventures center around the antics of housekeeper Amelia Bedelia, who takes figures of speech literally. For instance, when she makes a sponge cake, she puts in real sponges, or when she pitches a tent, she throws it into the woods! These literal interpretations repeatedly cause her to perform incorrect actions with comical effect.
